I hope it is ok to post this here on behalf of my Camera Club:

"MARTIN PARR . "Chronicler of our Age" . The Swan Theatre, Worcester 1st July 2017 @ 7.30pm

Beacon Camera Club, Malvern proudly present this exciting opportunity to meet, hear and see the work of this hugely influential photographer. In the face of a constantly growing flood of images released by the media, his photographs offer us the opportunity to see the world from his unique perspective. They are original, entertaining, accessible and understandable as well as showing us in a penetrating way how we live, how we present ourselves and what we value. Parr has been a member of the Magnum agency since 1994 and is currently their President. His work has been collected by and is on show at many major museums including the V&A, the Tate, the Pompidou and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Tickets £15 from http//:www.beaconcc.co.uk/summerlecture.htm

1994 I think

Thanks for this tip off. I have seen him speak before, he is interesting and also very amusing. Happy to recommend his talks and I will see if I am able to get to this one.

We're looking forward to it. Very lucky he agreed to come as he doesn't do talks like this generally.

It is interesting that his BBC work seems to have wound some people up. I wonder if he will discuss them in July....

We were told last night at club that ticket sales were going well so if you are considering booking a ticket, it might be worth doing it sooner rather than later.

Just a wee bump in case anybody who might be interested missed it earlier on.

Any idea what time the event might end?

Wondering how late would get home and therefore if attending is viable. Ta.

I don't know but will ask at club tomorrow night. The club do this ie have a speaker for the swan theatre each year. I will see if the programme sec knows.

Hi, so in the past these events have finished at around 10pm but this is just a guess as we don't have a specific time... Hope that works for you.

Both working now. (y)

I wish Worcester was closer, and that I could plan my life so far in advance. Hope everything goes well.

I hope you can make it.. Perhaps when you know your schedule there will still be some tickets left. Fingers crossed.

That's a shame... Still, there might be a chance that one seat is left unbooked... It often seems to be the way on sports events.

It's not guaranteed, but July can be a quiet time for me with work. I'll check back nearer the time.

Anyway, I hope it all goes well for you.:)

Entries have started coming in for the Street photography competition linked to this talk... Check out the Beacon CC website r details and the entry system. £5k's worth of prizes.

I only know my schedule one day in advance. :(
Hi there. Just thought you would like to know that there are still tickets available for this so maybe, even the day before, you might be able to get one.

Gosh this is some pretty good prices for a camera club competition! That should motivate a few new comers!

I'm not knowledgeable of famous photographer, I've had a look at his recent work section on his website and found it a bit underwhelming to be honest. Seems to mainly take picture of people on their phone. Or maybe that a message he is trying to convey?

Martin Parr is an international figure. President of Magnum. He is also the author of those indents on BBC at the moment with the groups of people. He has a long list of published work. He is also a bit marmite for people. I am looking forward to seeing him. There is a YouTube interview with him and the guy who used to work for Digital Rev.

I think I'lltake a chance on buying a ticket as work has gone slow as usual.

Excellent... I would look out for you but don't know what you look like!

Well, it would be nice to say hello. Perhaps a PM? I will be there early as I am helping.

Just a quick thank you to Chipper for alerting me to this event, to, Beacon Camera Club for arranging a well attended and enjoyable evening, and to Martin Parr for allowing me to photograph his sandals. My 260 mile round trip was worth it. :)

Well I managed to get to this as I didn't go down to Tenby. A very good evening well organised. It was made even better as I won the first prize in the raffle!!
