Bit of a weird one but I wondered if anybody can help....

...I have a couple of trips planned this year and want to buy an annual travel policy. One trip includes running - no bother, most policies cover that. Another is a Tai Chi course. I can't find any travel policy at all that covers this - even DogTag don't list it. The only company that covers Tai Chi for students doesn't provide travel cover - they list it as covered under "dance classes".....

Anybody know of any martial arts cover that also covers flying to bits of Europe and running a bit? To be clear, this isn't (just) the wave your arms about brand of Tai Chi. People get hit :) We won't on this occasion be using weapons though.

Can I surmise that you are not the first person in the UK who does the form of Tai Chi that you describe and travels to other destinations to 'compete'. Therefore, is there a UK Tai Chi official body who can advise on such medical cover related travel insurance???

PS this piqued my curiosity
I found this multisport specialist. https://www.sportscoverdirect.com/s...MI5MqI2oyp5AIVyLTtCh14xg24EAAYASAAEgJrkPD_BwE

Tai Chi chaun training & competition is listed ;)

Let me take you back to 8th century China and the split between the 6 major families of Tai Chi....... :)

But no - it's a bit like those different wrestling organisations. My school is a national school which means they have about 34 branches in London and 1 in Folkestone. Apart from being really clear that I need insurance they have no particular guidance to offer.

Oooo and only 72.01 even if I add in UK Ultras (must *plan* to finish sub 24 hours) and foreign marathons below 2,500 m. That's 10X the price of regular insurance but it could be a good option.

Jeez.....what kind of Tai Chi is that.....:thinking:

There are lots of kinds of Tai Chi. But basically the thing you see where people wave their arms about is a moving meditation. But speed it up a little or do it at precisely the right time and, well.....

Waving your arms around......that was what my mother said when she saw tai chi on television.........

Must say i've never seen tai chi translated as "grand ultimate fist".........

Perhaps you could find a policy specifying martial arts? Or maybe don't mention it? You can't always know in advance what you're going to do on a trip......:naughty:

There are surprisingly few travel policies covering martial arts :( You can get martial arts policies and travel policies but together, not so much. A few insurers say they will cover it for 50 - 100% extra (which really isn't bad) but don't make it easy to do this.

Talking to some friends in insurance, the policies might have to cover me. Even though they say they don't cover martial arts, if your plane company goes bust then that has nothing to do with whether or not you did some arm waving while you were there and they aren't usually allowed to decline cover :)

@JonathanRyan
I surmise that such cover is needed to cover medical bills and possibly a medical repatriation flight.....both can run to 6 or 7 figures.

Hope you manage to find the cover you need
