When I was still PWRR, we did a boatmanship course once out on STANTA Training Area near Thetford. Ghurka engineers were the demo troops and safety supervisors.
On the demo of the Mk-'whatever' Assault Boat, the eight guys hauled the boat off the back of a truck, threw all their kit and rifles into it, picked it up and ran the 200m down to the river-crossing areas near the old manor house (ex-squaddies will know exactly where I'm talking about)... we had to sprint to keep up and they were halfway across the 'pond' by the time all of us were there.
came our turn, the Ghurkas 'kindly' carried the boat back up to the start-point for us.
Like they had done, the first eight (of which I was section-commander) threw our kit into the boat and...nothing...
That boat wouldn't budge...eventually and amid howls of laughter from 'Johnny' and his mates, red-faced, sweating and grunting, we dragged that bloody thing slowly all the way down to the water and pretty much collapsed in an untidy heap...
After the day was done I checked one of the Ghurka's bergens and it weighed nearly twice as much as mine...they are tough little funkers...
