Manually firing my Canon 580EX II

I cant for the life of me work out how (if at all possible) to do a test firing on my 580EX. I was trying some light painting stuff last night and basically wanted to run around the scene firing the flash... but couldn't work out how.

I ended up connecting my ebay wireless trigger, then running around with flash connected to receiver in one hand, trigger in the other.

Is there an easier way?

Yes its a bit confusing as it isnt actually a button... but as admirable said..you press actual glass of the little light.
