Hi all,

I have acquired some manual lenses, no AF.

My question is how do I get the flash to work on the D70s with the manual lenses ?

Thanks in advance

The flash will work, but will not receive information from the lens regarding distance.

you'll have to go back to 'basics'
find out the Guide number of your flash unit and calculate the aperture from the subject distance
set this aperture on the lens
the camera will have to be set into Manual mode
shutter speed = 1/60 ..?

I'm a bit rusty at this so hopefully somebody can add/expand..?

If Nikons use of flash distance info is snything like Canons it shouldn't matter a jot.

The flash exposure is calculated from the pre-flash, the distance information is used only as a guide for expected outcomes of the actual measurement.

How often do most of us use on camera straight ahead flash? Generally hardly ever, so the focus distance and flash distance aren't closely related. But you should test to make sure.

Thanks guys, first time using manual lenses so bare with me. Practice makes perfect as they say.

Ill take a look at that manual and see what I can figure out.

Thanks
