Yes
This maybe be a stupid question but this FA cup game do you need a prem photographers licence because its at manchester utd,
Or because crawley are a non league team would you be able to take photos with a conference licence,

regards iron

think you will need at least a football league photographers licence as its the FA Cup but always worth contacting them and asking man u.

You've got to work your way up, to get a license to shoot the premier league or the FA cup you will need the backing of a magazine or a newspaper, or no someone within the organisation.

I've just applied for a football conference media pass, you've got to start somewhere...

thank you,
james i have a conference licence,
just was thinking as crawley are non league team

Manchester United are very limited on who they let in.
And im guessing that fixture will be the same. So thats a definate no.

Because the game is at a Premier League ground, you would be required to hold a PL licence or be accredited to the FA. If the game were at Crawley's Ground then your Conference licence would be enough to apply for accreditation, however it is still at the discretion of the club to allow you access and is not given right just because you hold a licence.

Has anyone answering had any experience in this?

I have

You can apply wiht your conference licence.. you dont need any of the above... It is at the clubs discretion but you can.. I have done premiership championship and wembley on conference licence in all manner of cups including FA.. So long as there is a conference team involved then you ahve the right to apply to photograph it under your licence.

Oh and England C games as well :)

I did plenty of FA Cup games on the last round (at Villa and Wolves, both Premier League teams) - and the guy who I worked for does NOT have Premier League license. I think (as I understand it) that on FA Cup weekends you are free to apply for these games as well.
Of course the teams can refuse your application.
So, if I were you.. I'd put in an application for the game.. the worst they can say is... No.

if he has only got a conference licence he wont be able to get onto dataCo and book the game but if tony is correct he should contact man u.

not all teams are on the dataco system.. i know man united is but a lot arnt and the old system is still in place..

its a conference team playing at man utd.. you cant stop people photographing one team because there playing another team in diff league

I used mine pre dataco online system but thats only the method of applying not the rules of applying..

BTW rules can change anytime.. they could change tommorow... but it still stands that myself and googabu have both gained entry to premiership or championship etc grounds without the normal licence

But....... be warned, with Premiership clubs, many are so entrenched in the Dataco mentality and are so cautious of the licencing requirements they often miss this fact entirely and apply standard Premiership rules to accreditation.

From experience, this also happened to me with The FA Trophy final last year and was told by the FA that because the agency I was working for at the time hadn't applied for a Premiership licence they wouldn't admit me, although I had shot the previous years final as a freelancer on a BSP licence.

That said, you don't know unless you try.;)

Man Utd don't let several of the 'smaller' national agencies in for matches...why on earth are they going to let an individual freelancer with a conference licence?

Frankly, they probably won't, its all about the amount of space that is available, and there won't be any, at Wolves Man Utd on Saturday there were 22/23 of us, I would expect similar Saturday.

But there's nothing to stop BSP licence holders applying.

I beleive there was 61 at Chelsea-Liverpool. That is mad

Not really about the ManU game - but I am in at the Birmingham City FA Cup game next week...
For single freelancers the games where you don't have too many togs are better IMHO.. If you have 40 'big agency' guys already snapping pics.. then your chances of selling something 'different' are smaller..
But go to a 'less interesting' game and you might only have 6-8 other togs.. so getting the shot that sells is a bit easier..
(not saying that I wouldn't mind being at ManU -Crawley game ;-)

The question/debate isn't if they will let him in... The question is.. Is he allowed to apply.. Well yes he is and Man ure have to consider it.. they may even let him in you never know... I would try if I was him.. can't hurt..

Point is.. he does have enough credentials in this instance :)

I wont be doing any games like that next season... Blackburn, Bolton and Wigan will be about my lot in the premiership.... No interest in shooting at the top teams with such harsh competition..

KIPSX mind if I ask; Where do you get your public liability insurance?

Cheers just checking we are on the same page! Got a quote from them today!

man utd said i need a prem licence,

at least i tryed,
you don't get anywhere without trying,

they just dont want anyone they cant control... i would get in contact with the conference and ask then for verification of the rules.. if they dont want you in then they dont... but they should just say that..

otherwise its saying conference football teams cant be photogrpahed by conference photogrpahers unless on a conference ground..

i aint saying its not true.. only that from experience it hasnt been such so far..

what if the game was at crawley.. not much chance the united photogprahers would ahve a conference licence..
