Guys I’m really excited about my up and coming trip to Hokkaido in January 2026. My camera gear is the Hasselblad X2D II along with 3 x lenses the ;
XCD38:2.5v
XCD 90:2.5v
XCD135:2.8 with a 1.7 TC
3 x Batteries
KASE magnetic filter system

According to previous weather forecasts it going to be bloody freezing so I want to make sure that I have all bases covered. I’ve read on the web about potential condensation getting into the camera gear when moving from cold to warm hotel rooms so I will be taking ziplock bags to hopefully prevent this happening.
What other things do I need to be aware of regarding this trip?
Thanks in advance

Is it freezing at a level that a dew heater and powerbank woud be useful. If you get the right powerbank you could power both camera and heater if batteries really affected by cold, like having 10 standard battery

I would take some giant moisture absorbing bags, the desiccant type, they are available in a range of sizes, I have some about a pound in weight that I repurposed from 100kg drums of welding wire. one of those in a zip lock and there will be very little moisture. they can also be redried in the oven and "refreshed"

I nearly bought a power bank yesterday but luckily I asked the online shop here in Thailand if they are airline friendly and they said sorry but cannot especially if we are going to China (we’re having a stop over in Hongkong) so unfortunately power banks with a higher output >120 wa are not allowed.

Due to flying into Japan internationally I’m going to wait and buy them in Japan as they potentially look like small bags of cocaine. Apparently all the big camera shops In Tokyo sell them.

Fon already plans to dress up as one while we’re there
I just imagined a whole shoot there Neil, :ROFLMAO:

It started wth a kimono and a pair of scissors cutting the Obi and ended up with a nice brew, Fon style of course. :)
Cant wait to see those.

When I know I am going in to very cold, I put my camera in its bag the night before or that morning if not going out and then put it in a cold place in the house. If it is really cold (and what you describe is something much more than I have experienced) I will start in the understairs cupboard and then move it to the garage. I repeat this process when coming back in to the warm.

Japanese hotels have microwaves for customers to use in common areas, find them and use them to dehydrate your silicon packs.
