Yes
So......its all going on lighting kit.

Options are as followed:

1. Lencarta Kit with 1 umbrella and 1 soft box

http://www.lencarta.com/index.php?p...ategory_id=21&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

2. buy some soft boxes, umbrellas and bits to go with my speed lights

3. Anything else you lot suggest!

if using two lights and reflectors will this be good enough to control shadows on the BG?

The space it will be generally used in is 4x3 ish.

speedlights, they're portable and useful, mains flash is at its best in the lovely big rentable studio

Get speedlights if you need portability.
Get studio flash if you want creative control and if most of your use will be indoors.

This thread may help

thanks for replies.

I am not thinking more towards my speedlights, the only issue is my second flash is the jessops 360 and its recycle time is too slow compared to my 430 II.

So I go for a second 430 or get a 580?

Also would umbrellas or softbox work best with these,

Thanks again

buy a 580exII and a 10m ttl cable

for a set up I'd go with calumet stands and 36" brollies for max portability will grab links

kerso has the 580 for about 300 quid, 2 stands, 2 adapters and a brollly should be ball park a hundred from calumet

I paid like £25 for my 10m cable from FiTP

that gives you 2 ttl off camera flashes with manual options its a really nice set up

I'd be saving for a westcott 28, but the pop up ebay ones are 40 quid and viable

how would I get two TTL from this? I can only connect one cable to the camera?

the 580 goes on the 10m cable or on the camera, it then talks to the 430 wirelessly in bright light or at distance I revert to my radio slaves

Ahhhh I get ya now, but why in bright like?

one of each, but you'll only ever use one at once (generally)

my go to for reasonably tight portraiture is softbox on 580 on cable in fairly tight bare or gridded 430 somewhere behind as either rim or as an effect light

The 430 has trouble seeing the flashes from the 580 at a distance paticuarly through a softbox in strong light, at night the range is great

the little red window on the front holds the reciever so that has to see the flashes

I can control manual power levels from the back of the camera on both flashes or just work the ratios and use ttl

rim?

my idea was to have one at the from either brolly or box with maybe a reflector. And the other on the BG, but now if I got the 580 I would have three, so could put two on the BG?

hmmmm tis confusing as I dont want to end up buying the wrong stuff or too much stuff at the same time.

a rim light is a light behind the subject pointing at them to give speration from the background

All the advice I am giving you is for location lighting, for studio lighting you want a studio

Now I am confused, location lighting??

Basically I am gettin a back drop kit with White and black backdrops.

then get studio lights, when I mean portability I dont mean less aggro to carry from the car. I mean carrying all day and working out of a backpack/peli case

ahhh ok.....I think my best bet is the £300 Lencarta kit, two lights, 1 umbrella, 1 soft box and reflectors and stands etc.

Can you use a softbox with a speedlight? as the box will come in hands from my outdoors stuff thats all.

thanks for all the advice btw!

they are gonna be s fit so if you buy a strobies then you could but studio softboxes are a pita and don't fold

these guys entry level pro lights are that kinda price and I'm in the process of buying some of their old m series (discontinued pre trinity) gear because of how nice it is

3 v entry level heads for 300 quid or 2 entry level pro lights

don't mention it, I thought you were thinking along the strobisty work with whats there but make it interesting light not portable studio

Wow just looked at these.....tempted with the fugl-e £200 or £300 one!

the smartflash's recylce a little faster but an extra head will be necessary for whit background work
