Since i started photography i have regularly outgrown my camera bag. Perfect for me right now is the Think Tank ...... (insert any of their larger roller bag names) all over £200 which is way out of my budget.

Have been scouring the web looking for a similar sized backpack come roller cases that i can customise for my needs, and struck gold finally yesterday and thought it might help some of you guys if you were in the same situation.

I bought a Karrimor Transit 40 litre wheeled case (seen here http://store.karrimor.com/karrimor-transit-wheel-case-794034)

It has backpack straps that can be tucked out of the way when not in use, padded sides, padlockable zips, 2 internal pockets for bits and an external pocket large enough to fit my laptop if needed (although it would need to be in a sleeve as there is no padding on the outside pocket!)

Next i needed to find a padded dividable interior for the case. I rummaged around in the bag cupboard and found an old camera shoulder bag that had a removable padded section with dividers (Bag was £2 from car boot) and robbed the removable padded divided section from another camera rucksack that i had and they both fit into the case perfect!

(Right hand divided section lays flat so is the right way up when wheeling it round)

Easily holds:
Main body with grip and 24-105 attached
spare body
ST-E2
3 x other lenses
3 x flashguns
Chargers and spare batteries for everything
Wireless trigger & Receivers
Various Snoots, Filters, Gels & Gobos
Table Top tripod
2 x Justin clamps
2 x Umbrella adaptors
2 x folded up umbrellas (not in the photo but they fit)
Pop up grey card
Card reader
Business Cards and other media

All of the gear is in purpose designed padded storage and can be waterproofed with a cheap backpack cover

Total outlay £30! Perfect! (until i outgrow this one lol)

Looks like a nice cheap solution, thanks for sharing, maybe I should try to make something myself :O
I've never found a camera bag that works better for me than a 40L rucksack to be honest!

Very good. I've got an large army issue rucksack with lens cases tucked inside and various padding dividers from old camera bags in side pockets, etc.. Far cheaper than certain brands!

I've just got a Tamrac expedition 9x rucksack and it's huge. It wasn't cheap, being around £140 when I got it (about £160-180 now) but it is well designed and well made. Takes a 7D with 100-400, a 5D2 with 24-105, 3 lenses, 3 flashes and all my stuff such as chargers, batteries, cards etc and I can fit my netbook in too. Got a tripod holder on the outside and I can strap it to a trolley formoving it too. Brilliant bag.

Some retailers (Calumet for example) sell replacement padded inserts for their rolling cases. I managed to squeeze one into an old suitcase and it has the added advantage of not looking like it is stuffed full of camera gear.

Crumpler Italian.

Gorgeous looking bag, it's got a bag on the front and a camera bag at the back. Sound weird but it's delicious. If you buy it, you won't be dissapointed. You could fit the wardrobe with narnia in it probably.

Probably..

That sounds and looks really good. I did something similar with an eastpak satchel, old sponge cushion and a lil needle work :P
