Seems a bit weird to me. That looks very much like a Burmese (Indian) python to me.
I had a breeding pair of these many years ago around the 12 feet in length mark
One gave me a hug once, I was left with friction burns no more.
it certainly wasn't big enough to drag me up a tree or even swallow me
A small child perhaps ( they went went the kids arrived) small deer etc. are the normal prey for adults
I would say "fishy" but I guess "snakey" would be more apt

Does seem a tad strange..12ft isnt exactly man eater size..
(also used to have a Burm...not breeding ***!)
African Rock Python is very close to the indian variety-minor differnce in markings etc.
but at 12feet-it would have trouble taking a child up a tree let alone a grown man.
Snakes may bite in fear-but as a rule will only ever fully attack anything they are capable of eating.
This lasted hours apparently?
And if the police roped man and snake out of the tree...then why are they still "Seriously looking for the snake"..
(Yeah-i know some species are far more aggresive than others-Reticulated for instance..but..something doesnt ring true here)
