Guys,

I've been toying the last few months with getting myself a medium format for film but I want something that would be compatible with a digital back later down the line when I can afford one. What with all the prisms, backs, bits, bobs etc I'm confused about which variations of these two bodies support digital backs (if at all) and would would be the better model.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Its possible the digital backs designed for the Mamiya 645 AF are backwards compatiable with earlier versions like the pro, some of the other hardware is but can't tell you for certain doing some reading up on atm and will let you know.

As for the RZ67 pro think Mamiya have a back designed specifically for it.

As to which is better it depends what you want to do. I only own the M645 but holding an RZ67 was enough to tell me it wasn't the sort of camera I'd want to carry out and about much. Its like having a breeze block in your hands. Besides smaller size the M645 also benefits from having one of the fastest medium format lenses I've come across the Mamiya-Sekkor 80/1.9, great for portraits and avaliable light work:

I had a RB67 which I found heavy but could hand hold but i swapped to a 645 because i could get 15 pics per roll of 120 and i was doing weddings at the time.
645 is a lovely camera and with a grip its just like a big slr with all the buttons in the right place.
Good luck

If studio based then the 67 - the bellows focusing could come in handy if out and about the 645.

I knows there's mad people out there who drag 5x4 cameras up mountains and the like but a smaller body makes a massive difference regarding portabilty
