Mallory Park one of the bed-rocks of Midlands Motor sport has now come to an end. Mallory Park Motorsport Limited is to be placed into liquidation. The decision was agreed yesterday at a meeting with the creditors.

In September 2013 the company went into administration.

Administrator Ian Robert, said: “It is likely that this process will lead to the landlord resuming control of the site and thus the future of Mallory Park and any further racing there will be in his hands.”

It is anticipated the company will be placed into liquidation by 29 November.

Hope the Landlord keeps it going as a race circuit. lots of good memories from there, I raced in the "Sound of Thunder" series on a Mille V twin many many moons ago, used to love the Plum pudding races as well on Boxing Day and can vaguely remember the Trans-Atlantic series over the Bank holiday weekend between the US of A and every one else basically, bloody good fun and sorry to see it go if indeed it does.

The landlord is Titan Properties of Leeds. Their chairman, Chris Meek, has raced and has probably won more races at Mallory Park than you've visited races there! I rather suspect the circuit has a future, even though MPML and their parent, The British Automobile Racing Club come out of the affair looking very bad indeed!

If anyone is interested, and has half an hour to spare, John Hindhaugh's/Radio Le Mans' podcast gives an interesting report on the Mallory Park story here -

Poor Mallory :(

Horsey and I will miss it.

It may not be the end of BARC at Mallory. MPML are separate to BARC. BARC also established a "holding company" soon after MPML went into receivership. I am aware BARC made an announcement that they were "walking away" from Mallory, but as they say "watch this space"

On the HBBC website there is an interesting not from the Chief Exec Officer

http://www.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk/press/article/1365/mallory_park-liquidation

especially the last paragraph
"These discussions and negotiations with the landowner (primarily) and with the council, which I hope will be jointly with Titan Properties, can now accelerate in a much clearer context, as the notice served on MPML in 1985 is no longer enforceable.

So the noise restrictions would have to be re- negotiated ?

That certainly would appear that a noise notice is served on the tenant rather than the property or landowner, so it may be that whoever is interested can negotiate with the council.

I always thought the motocross was possibly more disturbing than the on track action. Drifting may also be the wrong sort of noise as well.

Can you really imagine that after all this legal uproar about noise that some "new" tenants can come along and just be told "yeah thats ok dudes, you are the new guys, knock yourselves out"???

As I said on here before, its not the bits we normally see that represent the majority of the noise for circuits any more - a handful of race weekends is the least of the bother for the locals, its that these places have to do motorsport related activities the other ~330 days of the year to keep their business running!

Here's the statement, Looks like I may have something to do on Wednesday's after all !!!!!

PRESS RELEASE
4 December 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW OPERATORS FOR
MALLORY PARK

Mallory Park, the popular Leicestershire motor racing circuit, has new operators.
Stuart Hicken and Eddie Roberts, both well known in the motorcycle racing world, have formed a jointly-owned company - Real Motorsport Limited - to run the circuit on a day-to-day basis.
They commented: "This is a great day for us both. We have grown up with Mallory Park, firstly as spectators, then as competitors and now running businesses associated with the sport".
Eddie owns Complog, a leading worldwide retailer of motorcycle tyres which also supplies the British Superbike Series. He enjoyed a 20-year racing career, which saw him compete in many events, including Grands Prix and the Isle of Man TT.
Stuart is owner of the Buildbase BMW Motorrad UK British Superbike Team. He started racing in the late 1960s, then managed successful racing teams for others, before setting up his own Hawk Racing squad. Stuart's career also included several years at Mallory Park.
The previous operating company went into administration, after a series of problems associated with the contravening of agreed noise regulations.
Both men commented: "We realise that there is a lot of bridge building to be done with the local community, but Mallory Park has been here for a long time and we are hopeful that - with understanding all round - it will have a long and successful future. We would like to thank circuit owner Chris Meek for giving us the opportunity of re-establishing Mallory Park and also Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council for advice regarding noise issues and the community".
The pair will now start a programme of works to get the circuit into shape for the forthcoming season and plan to stage their first race meeting in the spring, together with a programme of practice and track hire days.
For further information, please contact Mallory Park, tel 01455 842931
(email & website details to follow).

Car championships have to submit their regulations to the MSA for approval by early December, and the full calendar forms part of those regulations, so most / all of the circuits had to base their calendar around the circuits they knew would be open, so the announcement of the new operators came too late for this coming season. I'd expect a number of non-championship events, or sprints to take place during this season, but to build up for the 2015 season.

Wednesday testing opening is good news, its cheap and Mallory, although short in length has a bit of everything, from slow speed hairpin to some really ballsy corners, and the short length means you get a lot of opportunity to test those corners per session.
