Hello! I'm having a last minute rack of anyones brains for my holiday to Malcesine tomorrow!
I've got a hire car for the 10 days that I am out there and would love to know of any locations that you can think of that are worth a visit with the camera :)
I'm doing a day trip to Venice and Verona, then apart from knowing that the lake in general is beautiful I was wondering if anyone has any location suggestions for me :)

Cheers!

Adam

Head up any of the small mountain roads at the north end of the lake. In good weather the views are always spectacular. But you'll have work out where the best sunset shots are going to be. I don't remember if I've been to the nearby St. Valentino, but villages like it are well worth going to.

We stayed in Riva last year but didn't hire a car.
We took the coach trip to Bolzano(hour and halfish north of lake garda) to see the ice man in the museum followed by a cable car trip into the mountains then a train trip further up the mountain followed by a shortish walk to see some strange rock formations nearby and then home by coach. Really good and some good photo opportunities, maybe a bit hazy on the landscape shots in the afternoon when you get up top.
The cable car trip from Malcesine is good for shots of the lake but go early doors as it can get hazy and very busy with hour long queues later on.
We aren't really opera fans but did the evening opera trip to Verona. Marvellous! Brilliant atmosphere. A bit of a pain if it rains on/off like it did for us as the orchestra pack up to avoid damage to their instruments and if it starts and doesn't stop they'll cancel the performance and no refund (unless it's raining before it starts and its cancelled). We got the cheap seats and got in early to get a good spot thinking if it was cancelled we wouldn't lose out much.
Otherwise we either cycled, walked or ferried around the lake. We were lucky with our timing and there was a music festival whilst we were there with lots of free short evening concerts in the main square in Riva.
We loved it there and i'm sure you'll have a great time.

Drive to the other side of the lake and follow the SP 669 to Campolara for some spectacular scenery. Cable car trip is also worthwhile. Also pop down to Belle Vue San Lorenzo one evening for the best view of the fireworks and the best meal you will find in the area. Enjoy

Thanks for the suggestions! We will definitely go on the cable car early as our apartment is right next to the station for it!
Considering not doing a day trip to Venice in favour of visiting more of the areas around and North of the lake, Venice could be a long weekend another time.
