So I have been playing around with PSE and learning a lot of stuff.

I am wondering though, how do I smoothen out the edges of an image once they back ground is cut out? I have placed the image in a new back ground but it looks like it was cut and looks odd. Most videos I have come across online, tells you how to change the back ground, but do not give info on how to smooth the edges or make the main image more natural so that it blends with the back ground well.

Is there any tutorial or tips people can please point me to or give? Thanks.

I don't use Elements so don't know what options you have.

Masking - this is the best way if available.

Erasing around the edge, varying the size and feathering of the eraser tool is probably the next best option and if you have a history brush use this to put bits back if you get it wrong. Always work on a layer keeping the original intact in case you need it .

Using the dodge/burn tool depending on the colours

I suspect you mean making the edge of the join softer? I use feather with a selection, it's under refine edge in the full version, I don't know where it is in elements.

As Wayne says use the refine edges on the cut out layer.
This is not in the earlier versions of Elements ( you do not say which one you have).

You can see if you have it by selecting a selection tool and a button saying refine edges should appear on the top tool bar.

Here's how it works using a exagerated effect so you can see it more clearly, if you have problems look in Elements help or shout and I will walk you through it.

Flower petal edge.
