Been playing with fire effects in Photoshop, not sure on the results, as you get a bit jaded after looking at these things for a while. Originally was thinking of shooting real fire and overlaying it, but decided to try PS first.

This shots from 2008, so not the greatest, but gave me something to experiment with.

It's basically playing with layer styles (inner & outer glow) and the smudge tool.

Next up, a full on Human Torch attempt...

Took me a while to work out what you were doing with your hand

It would also probaly look better with a intense face looking at your hand.

The flame does not look real to me, sorry.

It's not my hand, or me in that picture. It's a shot of magician Darren Snelgar MMC from 2008.

The idea's from comic characters Human Torch and Ghost Rider, like this

Not really supposed to look real, I'll have to spend more than 30 mins on the next one ;)

i think if you are to try this you best shine a torch towards your hand to brighten the area around the hand so it looks like your hands brighter..

A torch would have no effect as it would be completely overpowered by flash.

You could simply lighten the underlying hand in post, especially when the image wasn't shot with this in mind (this one's 2 years old). But then the lighter component would be behind the "flame", which should be brighter.

It's an effect I'll probably play with a little more when I get bored again, or if someone asks for a burning body shot...
