Making and saving a copy in Lightroom 2

Are you trying to export to a CD? If so are you going into the Export dialogue box and selecting the drop down menu at the top for exporting to a CD?

Yes - its the two tiny arrows in the "title bar" of export, isn't it?

It won't let me do it. And I'm not sure if I would be saving a copy anyway.

The image manipulation tools in Lightroom are great, but the rest of it just confuses me so far.

There do seem to be a few "issues" with Lightroom 2 (its lack of speed being the main one) and I think I read on the update to 2.1 (release candidate) that some people could not save or export. Have you tried the update to see if that helps - does seem to muck up the clone control though and has not speeded it up at all.

Issues? I'd call them problems!

Right, I can try down loading that update - it was mentioned a couple of days ago. I'm a bit surprised at how slow LR2 is.

Works OK with my version of LR2.0. Can you see the CD/DVD burner in explorer. Stupid point justto make sure it's plugged in. If that fails simply export to a folder on the computer and burn from there.

I've burnt CDs from Lightroom 2 without any problems. Yes, it is the title bar thing at the top of the export dialogue, it should drop down to show export to disk, export to CD/DVD, then any plug ins below.

With regards to are you saving a copy, you need to get into the Lightroom mindset...

The images in the Library are your RAW files (or jpegs) with the modifications you've made applied to them.

When you export your picture Lightroom gets the original RAW, then looks at it's database to find the changes you made, then applies them, then looks at the export settings you've selected and modifies the resulting image (origina + your changes) to match the settings in the export dialogue box.

So if you want a copy of your original file you are best to right click the image in the library module and select show in finder/explorer and get it from there. If you want a copy of your orignal, plus the Lightroom changes you need to do that from Lightroom and if the export to CD doesn't work, export to a folder on your hard drive, then burn that to CD, this is what Lightroom would do anyway...

Absolutely:clap:

This may be a stupid question, bearing in mind that I may not have done the above yet, but .... if you make changes to an image in LR, how long should you have to wait before you can edit that image complete with changes, in photoshop?

I have done that, but I got a message saying this was disabled on my computer:thinking:

I've downloaded LR 2.1, when I've installed it, I'll have another go.

The edits in Lightroom are stored in the Lightroom database, so if you want to edit the edited photo in photoshop you need to either export it (as a Tiff), then if you want it back in Lightroom you need to re import, or use the new edit in photoshop thing, but as I don't use photoshop I can't tell you how that works...

OK, so I've installed LR v2.1 and I still can't export a file to CD.

I click on "export", then click to get "Files on CD/DVD", select the CD drive, click "export" and get the message

"The specified folder is not writable"

There's also a message at the bottom saying

"Unable to export. Disc burning by Lightroom is not supported on this computer. It has been disabled"

Time to buy another computer then?:bang:

Have a look here. Are you running 64 bit windows ?

I dont think I'm running 64 bit windows - its XP.

Thanks for the link. The solution is in there - I got as far as creating a new folder on the CD drive but didn't try putting any files in it.

Weirrrrd.:shake:

Maybe my XP is 64bit - its beyond me.

But I tell you what, I'm really grateful for your help; this is the 2nd time I've got a software hassle sorted on this forum which would have completely stumped me otherwise.

About 90 seconds and make very sure that all the sliders have finished moving around in LR before you even try and export. Talk about a mind of its own! :bang:
