OK this is my first attempt.. I am not posting for critique.. More help and advice on how to do this sort of thing better.. I am far from an expert with PS..

I use Photoshop CS6
I know how to straighten and do general touch up stuff..

With this attempt at a poster I made a blank canvas... uploaded a load of pics... Used the clone tool and brushed them on from original to canvas.... Problems such as reorganising part way through.. pictures being different sizes as i brushed over...

what a good better ? way?

Not sure if I read correctly and I am not an expert. I would go about it By creating the canvas as you have done. Then copy and paste each image onto the canvas therefore creating a new layer in your pallette. Then add a layer mask to each layer. You can then paint with a soft black brush to cover the parts you want removing/not shown and if you make a mistake use white to reverse the effect. You can also free tranform each layer to make it any size or rotate it if needed. Needless to say you can adjust each layers colour levels anything really without mucking everything up.
Hope it makes sense and sorry if you knew all this stuff.

As i said.. no i dont.. was doing OK :) until you got to the soft black brush ?

So copied a pic over and as you say it does become a layer...
add layer mask.. from transparency seems to be the only option ?

got to the soft black brush

Ok.

Make sure the colours are selected in tools pallete Black and white the little curled arrow flicks bewteen the two. Choose brush tool as shown. Hope it helps.

pre you tube following your bits got the layer mask working and can blend one pic into the other but cant seem to get it much other than quite harsh.. ie not proper faded at edges.... will have a look at the you tube THANKS MARK! :)

other than quite harsh.
Not viewed the vid. If using a brush adjust the opacity and flow and brush with just the feathered edge eg: a distance away from the edge you want to create.

Have fun.

Thanks mark pretty much cracked it now.. needed opacity 100% to get the bits out i didnt want.. then make it lesser percent to fine tune the edges .. luvly stuff ta :)
