Howdy to all you fine techy types, I need a bit of help if you can.

Over the last couple of days I've received about 2000 mail delivery errors from emails I certainly haven't sent. I'm guessing someone has picked up my email address from somewhere and is using it to spam people.

Is there any way to a) stop it happening and b) discover where the emails are coming from?

I can post the headers of one of the messages if that helps.

TIA

First thing is to do is change your password.

I've had similar to this issue before, but I believe they got into my email address and sent spam to all my contacts and others. So I looked in my sent emails, and they even emailed my manager, some customer support contacts etc some links to viagra, from my name!!! :'(

So believe me, it could've been worse ;).

But like said above, I think you'll just have to wait :(.

Don't know why people do this sort of thing.

At midnight last night the spamming just stopped.

I have been in contact with my email service provider and they reassured me that the mails weren't comning from my account or their servers.

I guess it's just a case of waiting to see if it happens again ... hopefully not :nono:

Same thing happened to me Steve..I changed my password

That will help if someone has compromised a webmail account and is spamming from it. It won't help with return address spoofing, which does not require the knowledge of any passwords.
