Hello,

This looked like lots of fun, I was a bit late to join last year so I am looking forward to this year. My aim is to improve and actually be able to see a improvement; even if its just how to turn all the knobbley bits on the camera :)

Heres my first one, I think its clear enough the curves on the edge of the bowl with the snow in it. I took it in dark light so its dull but I like it...perhaps should have brightend the snow a bit? Anyways I actually quiet like it, it was not what I was going to do but I liked it better. c&c always welcome

good start madmadam, it maybe could be doing with a brighten but not bad at all :)

It does look a bit dark and cold but I suppose it was lol. Not sure how to improve it though, I think you've captured how it was.

A good start, I like the darker view of this one, and it sure looks cold. There's one very clear curve and a few others just behind the bowl too.

 Good start and some nice curves there in the branches as well as the bowl.
And I'm another fan of the darker processing on it

The way that you've used the DOF to draw attention to the far curve of the bowl has worked well. If I had any criticism it would be that visually it's perhaps not the most exciting subject matter. I feel like I'd like to see something else in the shot to make it a bit more dynamic. Maybe just something as simple as it being a patterned bowl instead

Thanks everyone for your comments. I take your point and I agree the bowl is a bit plain I will keep that in mind for week two :)

Things I learned this week - I don't know any poems and floating bubbles are really hard to photograph!!

Bubble_Poem.jpg

Bubbles
Out in the garden
When school was done
I blew bubbles
In the sun.

I blew a bubble
Huge as could be!
It hung it the air
For all to see.

Into my bubble
I looked and found
a shining land
That was rainbow round.

It looked like a world
Meant for no one but fairies.
They'd keep little farms there
with cows, chicks and dairies.
woods where pixies
could picnic for pleasure
and hide near the rainbows
Their crocks of strange treasure.

Countries were marked there
Plain as could be
green for the country
Blue for the sea
Purple for heather
sunshine like gold
Bubbleland weather
Could never be cold

and then came a bee
all furry and fat
Before I could think
what he could be at
My beautiful bubble
he brushed with his wing
and all that was left was a damp ring

Ooh I like your bubble! Has some texture about it & as said the colours from the wall shining through it.

nice, love the reflections in the bubble

That work great!

Love the stripes underneath & the bubbles shadow as it adds some depth.

Cheers, Rob

Wow, that is really good.
You have really captured this well. Love the reflection on the bubble (stupid obvious question, but thats just been PP'd in right?)
Like the stripey backdrop also.

Hi Thanks for everyones comments and Yes its been Photoshoped in ;)

Week 3 chopped I have been away so not had much time to do this properly not 100% happy with it but it was busy, busy, busy...can you guess where I went? ;)

It is certainly different! You must have had fun doing it. Well done for making the most of the opportunity

I agree, it's different, but fit's with the theme... How long did you go there for, I take it you had a good time at Eurodisney ?

I have fallen a bit behind with this, I took this when we did street and it was snowing but I never posted it up so here it is... my street

I will hopefully re visit Present but for now here is Speed... The speed the windmill is turning, I like this image the eye was very sharp I hope you can see it on the low quality image....

And finally my people shot, I just wish I had my bigger lens when I caught these two. Completely by accident in the mist I was photographing down by our Canal. There is a funny halo around the trees...not sure how to rid the photo of it but hey here it is...

I really like this image, I like the colours, they are so vivid.
The composition is spot on too. The couple in the mist give it a very romantic feel. All round great shot, well spotted.

Your speed shot too is good, again the colours really pop out being so vivid.
You've caught up with some fantastic images, well done. Iain

Catchup time again... :)

Some interesting images in your thread, but last week's "People" stands head and shoulders above the others. It could be a painting it looks so "dreamy". Wonderful stuff!

The only niggle for me is the large amount of foreground with not much going on. I'm not sure whether it adds to the isolation of the two figures, or draws the attention away. Undecided to be honest.

Some lovely colours in the shot. I hope you're pround of it.

Ian.

People - First thing that came to mind when I saw this was 'hauntingly romantic'. I'm not technical enough to offer advice on the technical aspect of it but I love  the way it looks except the tree weirdness you mentioned.

I spent a lot of time being undecided on that very point, cropping and uncropping different angles, but it seemed to take some of the magic away I think the distance is what makes it appealing but then again I too am not/was not sure but settled on this crop in the end... I will no doubt continue to fiddle with it :bang:

I am happy with it, I love the colours the only thing is I dislike that aura I can not get past it on the trees....I may have to play a bit more with it, and see if it can be repaired in any way:thinking:

Thank you everyone for your comments :D

This weeks is your best so far I think, though I really like the bubble shot too for some reason or other.

The colours in this weeks image are great and the people, though such a small part of it, make the image. Excellent capture, well done.

What a great catch up

Street : Simple, elegant and very pretty with the light reflecting off the snow. The car in the background is a bit distracting, but I guess that's what makes it "street"

Speed : :) Really made me smile. Nicely composed, vivid colours and I love the way that he'd peering through the windmill. If you could have got this against a cleaner background it would have been absolutely brilliant.

People : My favourite so far. This is absolutely beautiful
The colours are fantastic and it's got a real feeling of mystery to it.
I too am a bit undecided with the crop. My instinct would be to lose a bit of foreground to place the couple on the bottom third. I'm not sure though - I kind of like the way that they're lost in all that open space

'People' is super! It's a really strong image with great colours and I think the compostion is just right. Well done :)

This is a beautifully haunting and cinematic image. Great subject. Looks a little too blue and the halos are a pity (something in your PP?). But otherwise I don't think you could have been more bang on theme or found a better subject

Speed works briliantly. Street, I like the effect here. Wonderful colours and feel in People

Street and speed are excellent.

People - fantastic colours and mood. I wonder if the halo effect is caused by too much jpeg compression? I see the file is only 54K which is pretty small for this size. Just a guess. I presume it is not wind moving the branches during the relatively slow shutter speed.

I dont think it is as the halo is there when I photo shopped it, I think it must of been the light it was funny time of day and the mist was every where. I will fiddle with it and repost providing I can get rid of the halo.

Thanks also for everyone's comments on my previous weeks. I also think my speed shot needed a cleaner background but kids being kids, it was hard enough to get him to stand still and it was as usual with kids a fast catch him quick picture :)

This week has been a bit of a challenge - I don't really do mechanical I had an old watch but could not find it to take apart...so instead I have done Bio Mechanical...the wings of the butterfly in motion :)

Another thread I had not seen amongst the many, sorry.

Not going to comment on all of them but people is superb. The crop works fine for me. It makes the isolation more obvious

Mechanical- I really like this shot. I would have been happy to have taken it. Everybody gets butterflies resting with the wings sharp but this adds another dimension to it  Can't help feeling that the crowbar has been liberally applied as far as the theme goes though :suspect:

How did you find a butterfly at this time of year? Looks like the focus is slightly behind the butterfly and the background isn't doing the image any favours unfortunately. But then I guess it wasn't up to much direction :) Needs a tighter crop really, but doesn't look like there's enough detail there to live with being tighter, is it a heavy crop already? Well done for capturing it though

Well done on getting a shot like that. I agree on the crop and the background, but all the same... It's still pretty good.
