Well technically it's a hard box light modifier but you know what I mean...

I got bored today so I decided to take a walk into town to my local art supplies shop to see if I could find some materials to make a little diffuser for my flash guns, whilst in there i asked one of the assistants if they had any of this foam core stuff the Americans keep on about on youtube! Of course sir we have all sizes up to A1. Ah well in for a penny in for a pound as they say.

A bit of measuring some Selotape and a shower curtain later and here we have it, all in all it took about half an hour to make and probably cost me £20.

I used my 580EXII flash gun at 1/4 power on an old tripod with flea bay trigger.

It measures about 34 inches squared and weighs next to nothing.. this shot at 1/32 power

This test shot of my son was at 1/4 power on strobe, camera settings Iso 100, shutter 1/160 sec aperture f18! so it's plenty powerful..... :woot:

I had good fun making it and I will have even more testing it. The only problem is it does not fold down YET! and the missus although happy I saved a packet making it myself you could tell she was not happy about the size!! and where abouts it's gonna be stored....:lol:

I love DIY stuff. I spent 2 hours last night making a honeycomb snoot out of black drinking straws and cereal packets :lol:
 
I thought about building one of those but I could not find black straws anywhere. If I had found them I don't think I would of had so much fun....lol
 
That's working very well, and nice bit of handy craft :thumbs: I can see how storing it might be a problem :D.
 
Baahhhh that's what the spare room is for, that and the baby of course...

I got mine from Ebay - 500 for £2.50 :thumbs:

Quite fancied one of those Honl Snoots that collapse for storage, but not at £25 each, so I made one from a black mousemat from Poundland - works a treat :lol:

for black straws 'borrow' a load from a weatherspoons - I had some but before I got to make a snoot they were 'tidied' to the bin :S

Hehe when my cameras repaired i could take a shot or two of my snoots, but i'm sure everyones made one by now courtesy of Strobist.com :lol:

BTW if anyone needs black straws i've got about 400 left over :crowded:
 
How did you cut all the straws up?

I have bought all the kit including straws to make the grid, but I really don't want to spend ages cutting straws to 1 inch lengths!!

Back to the OP, loving that! Another one to add to the list of ones to try.
