Maddening iPhone texting problem!

Hi guys

I wonder if anyone else has any idea whatsoever about this.

Basically, from some of my contacts I only sometimes receive their texts. I think I've narrowed it down to only people who have an iPhone (I too have an iPhone).

I've tried iMessage on & off. I've called O2 who waffle some garbage about masts being repaired and suggest connecting and disconnecting from the network - neither plan made any difference.

It's difficult to assess the exact scale of the problem - if I don't receive a text then how am I to know unless the contact gives up and calls me?

Starting to feel I can't rely on the phone any more - is it a dodgy phone? dodgy network?

If I never receive any of their texts it would be less of an issue, but the intermittent nature is infuriating!

Any suggestions at all gratefully received!

Phil

Do they have send as sms as an option ticked? Also it's worth making sure you do. I think iMessage sometimes doesn't work but if you don't have send as sms ticked it gives up.

You can turn on read receipt thingies as well so they can then see if you have seen it.

I think there are network short codes for getting delivery reports as well but I don't know whether they work with iPhones or not.

Thanks for the suggestions - I can't see an option for receipts, but just chatting to AppleCare now - they are suggesting a backup / restore to wipe and reinstall the OS.

I think it's network dependent too. Both my wife's iPhone and mine are on EE. We went through a patch last year where we were getting texts delivered anything up to ten days after they'd been sent. Seems to be fine now, but we're both going to bail on EE when the contracts expire. Incidentally we'd both been on Orange before and the problems started not long after we'd renewed contracts and been switched over to EE. Coincidence?

Interestingly after a complete reinstall I've had no problems with texts today at all!

I have had this recently from the wife when she is travelling on train with crap reception.
Sometimes the next day I will receive a handful of texts that seem to have been queued.

on EE

personally I now use whatsapp pretty much for all my messaging.
