Hi All,

I am going to be in the market shortly for a Macro lens. I will mainly be wanting to take photos of things close up (as you do) such as groups of pens, or seeds, or insects.

I'm not looking to get incredibly close that you can see an ants sweat glands (if they actually have them?!), as I'm sure you are talking serious money!

At the moment I have no budget in mind, but I also do not mind buying second hand (if someone here might be selling?).

I currently have a Canon 70-300mm, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 and 18-55mm KIT Lens. So something that would compliment my rather amateur selection would be great.

Thanks!
Amnesia

A Sigma 105mm macro or Canon EF 100/2.8 would both fit the bill. The Sigma comes in about 65% of the price of the Canon version but performs just as well.

I had a sigma 105mm for my old Sony which was very good indeed! I'll be getting another to fit my Canon when funds allow.

Okay, thanks. I'm using my BlackBerry at work at the moment and can't get onto things like Amazon to check out prices etc.

What sort of price range would I be looking for with the Sigma?

Thanks,
Amnesia

According to camerapricebuster.co.uk (very useful site) the current best price on the Sigma 105mm macro is £248 (not that I've been checking or anything!) :)

Thanks ever so much for that!

I might try and look for a well looked after 2nd hand 105mm Sigma instead...

My Sigma 24-70mm and Canon 70-300mm were both brought second hand... And I have never had any problems (and I believe both were from this forum!)

Ha ha! Is it a queue? I could have been sure I noticed a sign outside the For Sale forum saying "Bidding Wars Welcome"?!

the sigma 150 is also a great buy bu its dependant on budget.

Thanks for the input eveyone!

I have been offered a Sigma 150mm dedicated macro for £275... Its only been used indoors twice and apparently in mint condition... Good deal?

Also, with either the Sigma 105mm or 150mm be suitable for taking shots of small things in a light box/light tent?

Thanks!

sound like a good deal! I use mine quite often.
