Macro lens

I'm looking to buy a macro lens (for close up) and not sure what I need. Could anyone recommend any decent ones for around £300? My camera is a canon 400D.

Sigma 105 was my choice after advice from here
and if you shop around you may be able to get some kenko extension tubes in or around your budget

Canon 100mm, about £320.
Sigma 105mm, about £250.
Tamron 90mm, about £290.
They're all good.

I use and am very happy with a siggy 105mm macro, some people will recommend the Sigma 150 / 180mm macro but i found these a little heavy for hand holding so it may be worth popping into a shop and handling before you make a decision.
