Since I posted a thread on 'what macro lens' a couple of weeks ago, I've narrowed my options down to the Sigma 105mm EX DG, Sigma 150mm APO EX DG or the Canon 100mm 2.8, all in the same price range (give or take £100 or so).

Just wondered if anyone had pics taken with any of these lenses I could see, to help me finally make my mind up.

I'd be looking to photograph insects etc.

I have a 350D.

Hi mate.

There are deffo a few people on here who have the sigma 105mm APO lens and swear by it - I was after one myself a while ago, and they had very good reviews.

Sure someone will be along in a few mins with some example shots!!

Anth.

ps - loved the comment of 'more or less the same price, give or take a hundred quid or so!!'.

I have the Sigma 150mm. All the macros in my gallery here are taken with it. I also put a 50mm standard lens onto the front of it face to face for extreme magnification sometimes so the more magnified shots are not just the Sigma!

No experience of the Sigma 105 but i have compared the Canon 100mm to the Sigma 150mm. I would say the Canon just has the edge on sharpness but you have to look hard to see the difference.

Ive got the Sigma 150mm (Nikon fit) and I love it. I really couldn't want more from a lens. Have a look at http://messiahkhan.deviantart.com/gallery/ for my insect macro shots. All but the very early ones were shot with the 150mm, as well as quite a few of the non macro shots. So the 150mm gets my vote  (Although ive not tried the others, so I can't really compare)

Cheers guys. Some excellent pics in both of your galleries.

Robert, what sort of adaptor ring do you use to attach the 50mm face to face, how does it affect the distance you can be from the subject and is a nifty fifty good enough or should I get something more expensive?

Sigma 150mm gets my vote, I sold mine not so long ago but really miss it so I'm picking up another soon

150mm Sigma here also.

Wickedly sharp 150mm Prime as well as a macro lens. Love mine to bits.

I'm sure the 1.8 will be fine. I attach my 50 mm with electrical pvc tape! The diameter of the 1.4 is not too different so the tape works well. It is usually only on there for 30 minutes so no sticky residues in that short time.
Working distance? there isn't any! You end up with the back element of the 50mm about 20 mm away from the subject. Makes life difficult but you do get good magnification.

I've got the canon 100mm f2.8, do a search and there's bound to be something on here I've taken with it. Great lens but the sigma 150mm looks to be at least a match for it in terms of sharpness, tempted to pick one up to try it sometime :)
