Hi,

Want to buy a macro lens for my 350D, do I go for the Tamron 90mm (approx £270) or the Canon 100mm (approx £340). I'm assuming that I can use either of these in a non-macro mode as well, making them usable as a portrait tens and therefore could sell my Canon 85mm to help offset the costs.

Any views?

image quality is pretty much the same (some would argue the tamron is sharper) so it's the other things which make the difference. Canon doesn't change length while focussing, slightly quicker than the tamron and quieter in AF mode (although you'll probably use it manually for macro). Build quality is probably slightly better as well.

If those things are worth the extra £70 to you then Canon it is. If not get the tamron, both good lenses :)
