just to pick your brains a bit...

I am seeing some truly amazing things in the macro section of the forums. I have taken what I think are good close up shots with my 18-55mm kit lens, but doesnt compare to proper macro shots.

I have a 400D, kit lens and 70-300mm. I know there is different hardware I can buy to get into macro photography, ranging from cheap to really expensive.

What do you guys recommend for a beginner who wants to dip his toes? ie, what gives a good result for a small investment? Whats good value for money?

:help:

You can get "close-up" filters very cheaply from Ebay (under £10) and also extension tubes are worth a look.

Im going to buy a X4 or X2 filter for my 18 55 kit lens, its the cheapest way to get really close macro shots, although it wont come close to being a replacement of true macro lens

EDIT, ewan beat me to it

I've got a set of four 58mm close up filters which you're welcome to borrow.....worth trying before you splash out on an EF180L

I see the very same thing on Ebay for £18-80 inc P&P

The 70-300can has pretty good IQ for macro with a set of extension tubes, I used my 70-300 for macro for a while with them.

Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it
