Yes
My other half has a Macbook Pro 2017 which only has two usb-c style ports.

I want to see if I can connect it to my BenQ SW270C monitor using the USB-C input.
When connected, the monitor is powering/charging the Mac but in the display settings there is no indication that another monitor is available.

Is this because you need a hub/adapter and HDMI cable to connect, or is there some hidden setting on either device that needs to be changed?

The specs say "Native DisplayPort output over USB‑C"

Many thanks in advance.

None too sure how the Mac 'interprets' a connection but my Windows 10 PC autodetected the right port.

However and maybe stating the obvious....

  1. Press the most lefthand button on the bottom righthand edge of the bezel....that opens the OSD menu controls
  2. Then press the 4th one across, it has a "menu like" icon.
  3. That shows the Mode menu with "Display" highlighted as default
  4. Click the middle (3rd) button twice to reach the ports list
  5. Then click the 2nd button in from the left to move the highlight down to USB-C.....................and that should, I surmise, work i.e. manual selection of the port used by the monitor. Note ~ I have no idea whether the if not selected as the video source that it will act as a charger....perhaps it does???
I have looked at the OSD menu again and in the "System" sub menu the are two parts USB-C Awake and UCB-C Configuration...............perhaps both are worth checking out as to whether they are crucial to what you are trying to achieve???

HTH and that you can get it working :)

have you look in the display settings in the MacBook? I set my 2021 MacBook up the other day and had to change a setting on the MacBook to get it to display the same screen as the MacBook. Connecting the MacBook works exactly the same as my works laptop.

This from the manual about the refresh rate...

Sorry the formatting has gone :(

If you have mislaid the manual it is downloadable here

Has the cable you are using got DisplayPort compatibility?

It's just a regular USB-C cable, so I doubt it, I wasn't aware you needed something special to get this to work. The cble is providing enough juice to power it.

I am manually selecting the USBC input, so all good on that front.

I'll have a play with the settings on the monitor and fight the mysterious (to me) settings of the Macbook.

Thanks all.
