No
having a bit of an overheat problem when I'm using my mbp
any idea how to overcome this problem. this seems to get worse when editing my pics using photoshop cc
it sits on my computer desk so has good airflow underneath
it has a 256 ssd. and a 750gb hybrid installed 16gb ram also a new battery installed with a cycle count under 10
just bought it last week

It may well be normal, my old MBP 2015 gets really hot when editing pictures, the fan is on pretty much constantly and gets uncomfortably hot on my lap at times. It has been like this since I bought it and it hasn't had any reliability issues. I just think it is the additional processing power being used which creates a lot of heat with little space for this to be dissipated. My new MBP i7 model doesn't get anywhere near as hot, but it is much more powerful so has plenty of power in hand.

I think it a documented thing with macs in that they are for some reason allowed to get really hot before the fan decides to kick in at any real speed?

You can get free software to run the fan earlier so that may be worth trying but as above it is pretty normal and my 2015 13" MBP also gets hot when doing any major tasks

A lot of people say it can be helped by having the thermal paste redone on the processer especially older macs and checking the fans for dust build up etc

It's normal because the aluminium body is used as part of the heat sink, and a computer that old is going to get absolutely thrashed by photo editing. The only cure is something a little less geriatric, preferably not a laptop.

The aluminium body is there for a reason, it helps get rid of the heat, wouldn't get too over excited, it is normal.

2011 MBPs had an acknowledged problem with over-heating due to some gunk they used inside. Many (including mine) were replaced outside warranty by Apple after motherboards started failing leading to BSOD. My 2014 MBP only gets warm if I leave the Finder with the Pictures folder open (yes, really, CPU at >100%!).

I had that issue and it then died on me while I was using it, it would not boot up (no chime) and would not boot up from usb or another mac in target disc mode.

Recently sent it off to be repaired, it was the motherboard issue and has been fixed and returned. The symptoms were overheating and fans running high in use.

Hope it is not this for you but keep an eye on it.
