looking at a 2021 MacBook air 16gb ram
just wondering if anyone uses one for there editing
and do you have any issues with it.
i know it says it has no fan so was wondering if it stays cool
or does it try and cook itself ?
i like the 12.9 i pad pro as well but i prefer a lid to cover my screen.
what would you choose ??

Edited over 3000 photos in Lightroom on Monday (24mp Nikon Z5 files), much of that time with it on my lap and it never got warm. I only have 8GB but it's absurdly quick, never slows down. I had a significantly more powerful (on paper) PC before and the difference is night and day in favour of the M1 Air.

Why not get a keyboard case or just a cheap Amazon case for the iPad?

I've used an 11" iPad Pro as my main editing machine for almost 2 years and I could never go back to editing on a laptop now. Editing with the Apple Pencil and being able to directly interact with the image is much better than a mouse and keyboard. Even my 2018 iPad Pro absolutely flies through Raw files in Lightroom without heating up. The new 2021 models with the M1 have twice the RAM and twice the performance of my model so I can imagine they are breathtakingly fast.

I have the MBP 13" M1 with 16gb ram and 512ssd. Running it for 2 months now and only heard the fans kick in once today when exporting a video from premier pro, and they silenced as soon as it finished. Never heard them when pic editing (but I imagine they are ticking over).

While using the iPad is pretty good, there’s still some features missing (or they were on last checking) that is frustrating for wedding/event photographers.

I stopped by the Apple Store in London Regent St last Saturday to try and get one of the new "12.9 iPad Pros 1 or 2 TB" but sadly none available at the moment. However I did get to try one in the store and that bit of kit is unbelievably fast and powerful, the screen is on the next level, and will be absolutely superb for photo editing. Plus the guy in the store mentioned that all the iPhone apps apparently work with the new M1 chip equipped iPads.

I can imagine for work like that you would run into roadblocks using purely an iPad, although Lightroom on the iPad is improving all the time. I can see them being useful as a companion device for a wedding photographer though. Culling on an iPad is lightning fast

It is, but connecting to external drives is a faff. I used to cull separately, then edit off the cloud. But I suffered with image consistency so moved over to the MacBook Pro. Saying that we've recently added a iPad Air to the family so that can be used for personal stuff.
