got a old 2006 macbook pro, which is running windows, thats ok, but cannot get sound, i have tried all-ways to get this resolved but have had no luck,, i didnt put windows on it it was there when i bought it, the start up chime is there, so i know its capable of sound, i have tried also to go back to mac op system and its not having it, it will not see hardrive? when snow leopard is installed, nothing in utility's will help, so should i remove drive and format it? or is it possible for me to clone a drive in my other mac and boot it from that???
 
Can't comment using Windows on a Mac but on a PC the system 'beeps' are not media audio.

Therefore, unless Windows native drivers have included the one for your Mac audio, you will likely need the appropriate audio driver!

Hopefully those "in the know" on matters Mac will be along soon?

PS random thought ~ would one of those Bluetooth audio dongles work 'connected' to a BT speaker!???
 
Try a usb 'sound card' - both windows and OSX should recognise it (though snow leper sucked really hard) and give audio through phones or an external speaker.

Pretty sure windows can tell you. Right click on start and select 'System'. The processor will be under 'Device Specifications'.
 
It will be a core 2 duo chip in that years model, can you not boot into recovery mode. Not familiar with that old a MacBook but you could give it a try and then wipe the drive from disk utility.

no mate, it wont recover it, tried. when i use the install disc, it fails to see the drive? so presume that it wont recognize it. tried most of whats been said on-line.

You should be able to find the serial number on the body somewhere and searc enter here to find the spec including the cpu.

My experience of using a dual operating system machine (Windows Vista and Ubuntu Linux) the Widows operating system would not 'see' a drive formated in a Linux format. If the drive is Mac formatted, that might be why Windows doesn't see it.
 
Are you able to remove the Macbook drive and format it in your other Mac, then refit and retry installing macOS from your install disc?
Otherwise get a new drive?

If you just format the drive to Mac Os Extended (Journalled) it should then be fine to use with your install drive in your Macbook Pro.
 
Another option is to try the local IT shop.
I couldn’t install the OS on a laptop I had and the local shop charged just £30 to do it. They may have more tools and hardware at their disposal. I searched google maps and looked for one with good ratings and the service was great.

Rather than reformat the original drive, just buy a £30ssd, pop it in and try again. That way it will still be usable.
