Hi, I need a bit of techy help as I'm not to good with computers. I moved from windows to Mac and stored all my photos etc onto an external hard drive.

I've now got a laptop and want to copy the stuff on the ex drive to it. When I plug it in to my laptop it won't recognise it yet it will on my Mac.

How can I sort this. Also I have folder which has work stuff on and is saved as an iWorks doc so that my boss can open it on his pc. When I save
the folder to my pc it shows it as empty.

Cheers David

Mac and windows use different file systems. If its formatted on the mac windows will need a software package to access it.

If you reformat it as ntfs in windows (BACK IT UP FIRST) you can run a few commands to get it to read and write on a mac. Google "ntfs write terminal" and you should find the commands.

Ok thanks I'll give it a look

Still got the mac? If so, use either the Mac or the PC to format the external drive (assuming you have originals) and format it as FAT32. That's read/writable by both Mac and PC.
