Guys,

Maybe a rhetorical question.

I'm finding more so now the requirement for remote editing. This is not a pc vs mac thing , I own both systems, just looking for something that will give consistent results in the field.
Clearly, colour criticality is important, I'm a realist and understand that looking for n'th degree of colour detail just isn’t going to happen, nor is it expected.

I have access to profiling devices such as colour munki and eye one pro..
and understand trying to profile laptops can be a royal .....

Looking for both + and - 's.

Thanks

G

I've had a retina MBP now for about 8 months and find that its the best screen I've owned on a portable. It's very good straight out of the box but profiling does give me a good match with the iMac. . Yes the screen is a bit shiny but I've never really had a problem with that.

Profiling with i1 display no problem at all. Gamut is similar to sRGB

The rMBP is used tethered when shooting products including fabrics, via Lightroom. I can then match one frame to the original product as a reference.

No but glossiness is.
Before I bought the 21.5" iMac, replacing the 20" all white one, I'd been reading about this gloss "issue".
In the 3 years of using it daily, I can honestly say the number of times I've had an issue with it being glossy, could be counted on one hand!
I think far too much is made of this "concern", but just like most things, you can't please everyone.

To use an oft seen American abbreviation - YMMV (your mileage may vary).

I suspect the gloss screen is a bit of a Marmite issue with some. personally I don't find it a problem , others do. However I would agree with Neil that a matte screen would be better, but I can't see that happening.

Best option get to an Apple store and try it there. You could take some images and see if you can work with the screen or not. (Don't take credit card :) ) Apple tend to have aps like Photoshop on their kit so you can see how things work in real life with your images

no idea why they didn't keep the "anti glare" option on the retina.. that would've been a NICE display..

I suspect it's because the glossy screen gives a more impressive image. But as the MacBook Pro is a Pro computer I would have thought they would have given it as an option. Perhaps you lost a lot of the impact from the retina display
