Mac book pro doc freezing

Is it a particular file or several files? If the former, might be a corrupt byte or two. If it's happening in several files, you could have sour RAM (use memtest to check it).

Make sure you have a backup of your data. Shutdown the machine, reset SMC and NVRAM. Power on holding cmd-R. Run disk utility to test file system integrity. Try to fix any errors detected.

Does the Mac boot OK when not in the dock. At what stage does it freeze? Have you tried booting into safe mode?

Is your problem that you are unable to open a particular document and that your MacBook freezes when you try to open it?
If so, then it might be quickest to send me your 'faulty' document and see if it will open on my MacBook - unless I would require a special/unusual application to open this type of file.
Then we will know if it is a problem with the file, your App or something on your computer.
Just private message me if you would like to try something like this.

Thanks all, I'll try the suggestions.

@neil_g it freezes and I have to move the mouse over the icons for it to unfreeze. Not a bit deal, really, just a bit frustrating.

Cheers.
