Hi all,

I have just found some of my dad's old lenses. One is a Hoya HMC 75-205mm lens but my problem is is that is has an automatic diaphragm. Now this means I can't use the manual aperture select when using it. As I wanted to use it for macro with some extension tubes I was wondering if there was a solution? Like some way to manually keep the aperture set.

Thanks

Daven

The problem I have when I use M42 lenses is that you have to realistically focus wide open, then shut down the aperture to what you require. The adaptor makes it quite safe to change aperture with the lens connected, I can't imagine it's any different for a Sony.

One more question - can I keep the adapter attached to the lens, or do I have to attach it to the camera first and then attach the lens?

Thanks

The easiest way is to attach to the lens and then mount to the camera and remove the lens and adapter at the same time.

Thanks :)

Now I have another problem / question! I ordered some extension rings and they don't have a push ring as far as I know. Is there a way to keep the pin pushed in while using the tubes or is there a separate push ring that I can use?

Thanks a lot guys :)

If you are using M42 extension tubes you will need automatic ones, these have a pin going through each section. If you have Sony mount extension tubes then you just put the adapter onto the lens and mount it onto the extension tube.

:( I have just ordered the M42 extension tubes that aren't automatic. Not to worry - according to ebay I can cancel the order within 7 days (distance selling regulations) so I will cancel and get the automatic ones - much cheaper than getting the sony ones!

Thanks again Morganc

Yeah they are, the pins run through each tube and they push a ring of metal which then pushes the next pin. Did you buy them?
