I am thinking of heading to Lyme Park this monday to try and photograph some of the deer, having never been before is this a good time to go and find the deer would you say?

Not sure if your a little early for the rutting season, bit also consider Dunham Massey for deer as that in your area too.
 
Yeah i have been told about Dunham Massey as well, I think Lyme park could be easier to get to as I don't drive at the moment.

Will the deer still be there just harder to find?
 
Lyme park is Massive and there are deer there but I believe they are a lot more wary of people were as Dunham Massey is much easier to shoot with only a shorter lens (200-300 range)

also consider Tatton Park which has dear.
 
Another vote for Dunham Massey; you can't miss the deer as the place is a lot smaller. The deer are easily found if in the car at Tatton but Lyme Park, you can go several times and you wont see them.
 
I was at Dunham M the other day and many deer hang around the house etc
The smaller ones are harder to catch up with though
