Hope some one can help, please.

PC runs Windows 7.

(a) When I connect my card reader to any USB skt I do not get a "found new hardware" message and nothing happens if I insert a card with pics on into the reader.

(b) However, if I put the card into the reader prior to connecting the reader to a USB skt. the pictures immediately download.

After downloading the pics and removing the card the reader "gets forgotten" by W7 and when I want to read another card I have to repeat step (b).

I have installed the latest drivers from Luxor. The device did not come with any software.

Any good soul got a solution to the niggle ?

Thanks in advance.

Mine's is always connected and just says "Removeable Disk" ?

Are you on a USB3 socket?

On my previous PC (WXP) my card reader was shown as "Removeable disk".

When I have downloaded pics as per step (b) described, the card reader will show in My Computer as Removeable disk (L), but after the next reboot that will disappear even although the reader has not been disconnected from the skt.

Yes, USB 3.0 skt ... blue.

Click on control panel > Click on appearance and personalisation > under folder options click on show hidden files and folders > In the dialogue box that shows up, look under advanced settings, files and folders, hidden files and folders > Make sure there is a tick mark next to show hidden files, folders and drives > Click apply > click OK

Hopefully it should now show up

It is worth noting that unless this setting is enabled in win 7 your card reader will not show up unless in has a memory card inserted

Very strange, I am on win 7 too.

Do you use an extension usb cable ?

Otherwise don't know what to suggest, sorry.

Thanks Keith, but I already had that enabled.

I do, but the problem exists with or without it, Mike.

Just a thought that some of you knowledgeable folks could maybe answer.

My pc has an Akasa internal card reader installed and working, but I do not use it for CF cards due to the design being appalling because the slot containing the pins has absolutely no depth and trying to correctly insert a card without pin damage is a nightmare.

Could there be a conflict with the two card readers.

I have had problems with internal readers before and I used to lose drives on XP.

Try disconnecting the Akasa and the Lexar, reboot then connect the Lexar again.

If it was a conflict I'd expect neither method to work.

When you so method 1 go into device manager, does it show up? If not right click and scan for new devices, does it show then?

Also check disk management, does it show there at method 1? If not right click and rescan drives, does it show then?

I'll try that in the morning, Neil .... Thanks.

It showed up in DM this morning Neil in the circumstances you suggested trying. (Very occasionally it has done that before, but normally not and scanning for new hardware never found anything when it was not in DM).

I plugged the reader into another PC running WXP. The hardware was recognised and installed.
