Hi Folks,

Yes I'm new and by no means an expert.

I'm looking for a new camera, a step up from my point and shoot Olympus mini s. I like to take decent photos and on a recent trip to Vegas my current camera really let me down as in I needed to zoom in on subjects and needed a good flash for night shots. Flash is very important as I want to take shots on my next holiday of evenings out, meals ect...

Which one would you recommend from my above selection? I don't want anything to complicated to use but I want something that if needed, I can add a sort of professional touch to a photo as I get more experiance and one that will last a long time. I was going to get an SLR but feel this would be to advanced for me.

Many thanks'.:help:

Hello, does the S8000 have an optical viewfinder? I have a 6500 and the viewfinder is rubbish. Other than that it works quite well.

These cameras they have very small sensors, which on the plus side means long zooms, but on the minus side means very long depth of field, so blurring the backgrounds for portraits is not really going to happen.

Out of the two cameras you mention the Panasonic fz18 is the better one. No bridge cameras have optical viewfinders but the fz18 as a decent resolution. Dslrs as best image quality and noise control but to buy one with same focus range as the fz18 the lenses will be bigger and heavier and cost more.
