Had a scroll down and couldn't see this as a thread in it's own right.
The dates I have for Lumière's return to Durham this year are 14-17 Nov.

I'm going to try and get there two nights, last time I found one wasn't enough if you're photographing stuff :)

I went last year and found it very hard indeed to get a decent shot. It was too busy, maybe it was the time I went as I had the kids with me.

I may try again this year but a bit later in the evening.

it was busy most of the time last time it was on and management of people going to the cathedral and around the market square on the first night was appauling. But worth going to without the kids if you want to get some good shots, thats if you can get away without them.

You would be very very lucky to set up a tripod and keep it steady, due to the amount of people there.

I took one in 2011 and it sometimes got in the way....Durham was packed! However, some shots simply wouldn't have been possible without.
I took the Benbo Classic, which although heavy and cumbersome, meant I didn't always take up so much space.
I'm debating whether to take it again and put up with the hassle, or just take the monopod.
A couple of shots I liked were 1s, f5 at ISO800. Even juggling a bigger aperture and higher ISO, I'd still be looking at 1/8s. Decisions, decisions!

yep you have to book tickets for the city centre
remember there was over 150,000 people last year and that a increase on the year before
so will be hectic

Already have my tickets for Thurs & Friday to ensure I can access the central area before 7.30 because last time it was an accident waiting to happen and I still don't know how a serious one did not on the Thursday.
Try Ch-le-st civic centre if you want some as that would be your closest and easy parking

I just booked the tickets for a Friday Night

announced today that some of the displays used last time will be used again like the gospels projected onto the cathedral

not going to bother this year
As soon as I get my new motor I off to swaledale to get some waterfalls especially crackpot falls then others.
welcome to pick people up on the way there
hopefully have car soon

I missed it last time and this will probably be the last time I get to see it so definitely planning on venturing out.

I think ill bring a monopod, only have a 18-50mm f2.8 and im guessing that wouldnt be enough. Dont really want to destroy my images with noise either, hmm..

Went two years ago and enjoyed it but it was very busy. Will be hard to get a clear shot in the centre but the outer exhibits should be fine.

Good luck to anyone who attends. The organization of access for the last two was at best shambolic, and the last in particular was disgraceful. No surprise if you live in Durham.

I still cannot believe there was not a serious incident last time and someone trampled as the numpties doing crowd management did not have a clue and radios were not working well on the first night.

For those interested in attending, the website now has a list of all the sites and exhibits, from what I have seen it looks disappointing and not sure now if I will bother with the hassle.
