Hi

The twist locks on my tripod are stiff and when I pull out the legs I have to use a lot of force to tighten them.

I have removed each one and wiped the threads to ensure there is no dirt or sand on it, so I think next steps would be to try and lubricant them to see if it improves.

So what lubricant do I need for the twist locks?

Thank you

It would depend on the materials the tripod and its fittings are made from, some metal to metal surfaces will bind with the wrong lubrication whilst plastics can easily be damaged by oil based lubricants. Examining the original lubrication and replacing with similar would be the best option, failing this does the tripod's manufacturer disclose the best maintenance regime for the leg locks or even sell a suitable product.
I don't know what tripod the OP has and I would be reluctant to suggest anything that could make matters worse though silicone grease or dry PTFE sound good failing information from the manufacturer.

Thank you all for the suggestion.

Should have added the tripod make and model which is the Benro Induro Hydra 2.

The tripod is carbon fibre, but the twist locks are plastic.

I have had a quick look on the Benro site but cannot find any information on the lub.

Thank you

I use WD40 specialist silicone spray.

It’s safe for metal and plastics etc.

I use GT85 - basically the same stuff but a different label.

I wonder in the absence of website info clarity an email might answer the question?

Manfrotto spares sell a small of the lubricant used in the factory.
I was originally going to post a link to that but as they don't list Benro (or did I miss it?) I was unsure if good choice.....

Thank you all, email sent to the link above.

Will confirm what they say.

Hi

I have had a reply and they have said that I need 262 lubricant, they can supply it free of charge and I would have to pay postage, however it would be between 6-8 weeks, so any idea what 262 lubricant would be please?

I have had a quick look online and when searching this comes up:

Is this the correct stuff or I am looking for the wrong item, and I should get it supplied by the Benro supplier?

Thank you

I think a standard Lithium grease would be fine, Halfords or bike shops will carry it in small tubes, can be called White Lithium grease, silicon grease would be better for waterproofing but Lithium has higher antifriction protection.

Don't use the spray versions as they will run into the collet shims
