LRC and LR - using a lot of RAM?

Just wondered if anyone else thinks or feels the same.

Doesn't matter which one I have open and use, or whether I am editing on my M4 16" Pro with 24 GB RAM or my ASUS with 32 GB RAM and 8 GB 3070TI, I find the RAM used can go anywhere between 6 GB and 15 GB. Seems to fluctuate a lot.

I am new to the MAC world, but it seems to use more RAM when I add more layers / masks and the super enhance (or whatever it is called - I only used this for testing) which I suppose is to be expected. Even the ASUS hits 85% RAM use and the GPU takes a beating at times.

Is this normal?

I was speaking to a mate of mine who also has a 24GB 16" MacBook pro (same as mine) and he also couldn't believe how much RAM it uses at times.

I have tried turning off the sync and things like that - just seems to be taking up a lot of resource recently? Or maybe I have only just started noticing. I do not get any issues with either system performance wise, although got about 2GB of swap on the mac during one silly test I did. Most of the time the memory pressure is green, but now and then I get an odd yellow spike for no apparent reason.

I am not worried about using the odd bit of swap memory as windows does something similar I am told and has done for years, so I don't get hung up about swap - but probably would if I was showing high yellow and red pressure constantly, which I haven't experienced.

I was looking at the new Studio as a desktop (was also considering a mini) for general family use and photography stuff - but wonder if the base 36 GB model is worth it or buy more RAM?

Thoughts from the pros and more mac savvy welcome.

If it's not causing you any problems, why worry about it?

Macs are more "easy going" about RAM than Microsoft, but the usual tenet applies - buy as much memory as you can afford because a) it's not easy to add more later, and b) future-proofing.

This isn't a Mac-specific issue - the Adobe CC suite seem to be horrendously inefficient memory hogs these days

I did some editing yesterday and the adobe RAM usage was 16.7 GB. I sent a friend of mine a screen shot (he has the same MB Pro). He just doesn't look and doesn't really care about the memory pressure. I get the odd spike of yellow now and then but no red and it soon reverts to green.
