Yes
I've just had a play with the Lightroom 3 beta and while i find it difficult and inaccurate to use, it seems to consistently produce better results than I have been getting from using CS3.

All I did was reprocess a few favourite images and compared them side by side and the newly processed ones are the clear winners.

Could it be that i'm just not very skilled with CS3? ... the difference is mainly in colour and contrast, the CS3 ones have harsh shadows and dull colours by comparison.

Thoughts?

It may be a lot of things, they may both be set to different colour spaces for example.
That said they are two different applications for different jobs really, LR is mainly aimed at batch processing large numbers of images with fairly basic ajustments, while PS is a graphics program able to carry out far more advanced editing
IMHO they compliment each other rather than compete.

It does depend how you processed the original images. Compared to the develop module in Lightroom the tools in CS3 even the ACR develop module are not as good as those in Lightroom 2 and upwards.

The fact that the design spec. for Lightroom was a program designed specifically for photographers shows.

I agree with Wayne that they do compliment each other , but for image processing speed and ease LR wins hands down. However if you need to do any "Real" retouching you will need Photoshop. Check out the many tutorials on the web for more information on how to use Lightroom especially the Develop module

The biggest difference is speed, batch processing and having your files well organised makes a huge difference! I can do a wedding in hours rather than days. LR3 is the quickest lightroom yet, much improved user interface, thanks Adobe!

Really have to get myself to trying out lightroom.
I have it here on my mac, just automatically go over to photoshop everytime.
Seems like I would save so much more time if I was to make the switch though!

LR is so much easier for processing images.......you know it makes sense;)

Is it much more difficult?
May have to have a flick through some tutorials. Really dont have a clue. Only had it opened once, was swiftly closed again

No it's not difficult it's very easy.

OK so you've got to "Import" your images into the catalogue, but that's a simple task. Just select a few first. Then go into the develop module. Don't be overwhelmed by the amount of controls. Use a few first and then try others. The graduated filter tool is very useful.

Watch some of the tutorials available on the net to get a real good idea.

I suspect that after a short while you'll get the hang of it. Don't forget the ACR develop module in Photoshop is the same engine that's in Lightroom. ( Lightroom got it first though). I've been using Lightroom since the first Beta and honestly it's the best piece of software I've used.

Sounds like I have to give this a go now!
Will use this for my next batch of images I take, will let you know how I get on

Also bear in mind that LR3 is beta software, so may run slow/unstable. But Lightroom's develop module is pretty much the same as ACR.
