Ok, so I've installed the excellent Mogrify plugin for Lightroom and I highly recommend you give it a try if you haven't done so already.

Anyway, the problem that I am having is when I use a Graphical Watermark. I created a watermark in CS3 on a single transparent layer and then saved in various formats (jpg, tiff and psd). When I export my image from LR with the watermark applied (jpg/tiff), the resulting image is just a block of white - as if the transparency has been lost.
However if I use the psd format watermark, the resulting image has the following text (in 4 languages)....

"This layered Photoshop file was not saved with a composite image."

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Gary

Thanks guys - I saved the PSD as a PNG and now it works fine.
This mogrify plugin is extremely useful

You probably need to merge any layers before saving the psd file.

Have you tried the different overlay modes? If so, which did you decide to use? I've found that 'Screen' gives a more unobtrusive result.

I've recently tried given the Mogrify graphical watermark a go, as opposed to the text watermark.

But I can't get it to work properly for the life of me! It's something about the blending mode. In 'normal' the photo is wiped out, and in 'overlay' the photo is present, but burnt out. All other modes, there is just no watermark.

Do you have transparancies set correctly in your watermark image? What format is it?

Tried all formats, psd, png ect.

Tried various opacities too, to no avail.

Hmmm, I use a psd file with the background set to transparent and the 'Screen' overlay mode in Mogrify. This is the result -

Can you post your watermark image?

I can, but it's the same whichever one I use.

I think the products' user help is very poor - i.e. there is no instructions or help file! Shameful for a paid product really.

It took me ages to get mine sorted out, and it's not a complex image either

With the PNG, I did the following
Erase unwanted background.

Save for Web & Devices
Set to PNG (PNG-24)
Checked the transparency box

then saved the file.

I created several sizes as I found the LR2/Mogrify resizing to be rubbish.

The LrMogrify guide is here ;)

FWIW I use a PNG file (created in Fireworks, but I'm sure other programmes will do the same) with white text and a transparent background and most importantly transparency enabled in the save dialogue for the PNG. I also use the normal blending mode.

Can you confirm that when it is saved your logo image actually has a transparent background? If you could post a watermarked image we will probably be able to see what is going wrong.

I did see that guide. But it's somewhat minimal imo.

Sussed it now; wasn't addressing the transparency issue properly.
