LR2 Help

I'm starting to take more interest in LR2 as I realise I'm never going to improve my digital photography unless I start to get grips with post processing.

I've imported a RAW photo from my KM5d and the colours, most noticeably reds are really blotchy. This is with the Camera Calibration Profile set to Adobe Standard.

With it set to ACR 3.2 and 4.4 it is much better but I can't see much difference between the two of them and havve no idea why I should use one over the other or over the Adobe Standard.

Hi Kevin, as red channels tend to over expose, have you tried bringing the recovery slider up a bit to recover the detail?

I'm afraid I'm not an expert on profiles but I was under the impression anything that can be done by changing profiles can be done with the sliders and it is a starting point for your processing.

Camera profiles in lightroom are very handy Kev, basically their designed to imitate the profiling that proprietary software interprets.
I dislike Nikon's NX2 and use lightroom and CS4, the imitation profiles help to get a much more accurate rendering when processing your raw file.

Try opting for camera Neutral, and see if that helps.

If the red is still too saturated, you could either make your own profiles ( Adobe to an app for that, but it only works with DNG files), or simply in the camera calibration drop the saturation and save it as a preset.

You can then apply it on import

It's not so much the loss of detail Pete but the way the colours are all blotchy. I've not tried the recovery thing so will have a further play this afternoon.

Cheers Tomas, I was under the impression they only had profiles for CaNikons but I'll download it and have a look when I get home tonight.

Cheers Tomas, I've not had a chance to look at it yet as I'm in work but thought Chappers might be talking about using one of those colour targets you photograph and then analyse the recorded values.

S'alright mate, come to think of it you can save your own camera calibration in LR2 too, adjust the sliders to taste and the save as preset by clicking on 'Develop' and then 'Save Preset'.
