Not quite sure where this needs to go but bear with me.

Long time user of Lightroom since before it went subscription only - upgraded through multiple versions, many different cameras used never had this problem before

I can still see the problem in this screen grab so hopefully you can too

The circular banding/ posterisation has only reared it's head in the last week, I have tried everything to get rid of it but have failed, the effect is still there even at 100%

I have recently been using a new PC but it was fine when I migrated LR across. I use a i1 Display Studio screen calibration tool which I used once I'd set up the new PC and everything was fine then too.

If I go back and look at files I haven't opened for years I see the same artifacts

Any ideas

Bit depth of the images are?

Is it just on the previews or there in the original files when viewed using a different tool/programme?

Check the colour space setting for Lr and your OS

Have you tried enabling or disabling GPU acceleration?

Is it the same in both Library and develop mode?
Have you tried rebuilding the previews?

Make sure you’re using an up to date driver for your graphics card.
I’d also check the OS colour settings

Have you applied a radial filter to the image? If so is the banding still there if you disable it?

Another thing to try is to update the image to the latest process version.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll look at the things mentioned and let you know how I get on - i might be a while!

How do I do this, not quite sure what this is referring to if I'm honest.

Check 100% zoom in the develop module. Library and lower resolution modes apply a lot of compression to increase performance, but it's not a full quality view. Compression and resizing can both cause banding.

Do you get the banding once they're exported? Or does it only display within LR?

I only ask as some of my images have a lot more noise on them within LR, but once exported it's much better.

Hello again - so I think this is sorted.

I viewed my RAW files in Canon DPP, Fastone Image viewer and Microsofts W11 "photo" viewer and they were all displaying the images as expected, so I deduced the problem was Lightroom :-(

Then I found this advice in a document about optimising performance.

So with some trepidation I deleted the previews cash file and bingo everything seem seems to be right in Lightroom land again :-)

This is the whole document which I think has some good advice even if you need to read it 5 times to understand what it's on about

The only downside to this is the loss of all the previews, but they re build each time you open a new folder of images.

Thanks for all the input earlier

David
