Yes
Anyone used them? They seem to be a bit cheaper than Club35 and Peak imaging for MF processing and developing so I was wondering about using them (I use them for my digital prints so already have an account with them as well).

erm bit of a cheek in that you have to register to get their prices PDF, can't see a way of getting a price without a download.....that's put me off them.

I do not know why you do not try these people, this is Nigel,s post on a previous thread, to get the full .50p discount on each film you need to send in at least two films.

Hi,
I'm Nigel from Photo Express in Hull. I have registered in response to a request from Richard after he called us to inquire about having films developed and either printed or scanned to CD. You can find us at www.photo-express.co.uk and I have agreed with Richard that any TP members can have a 50p per film discount on any orders sent to us as long as you include your user name (although bank charges mean we must keep our minimum order charge at £4.50). We are a small business and therefore offer a personal service. We are in our 21st year and I am pleased to be on first name terms with many customers I have never met! If there are any questions you are welcome to e-mail me direct at nigel.edwards@photo-express.co.uk . I will try and keep in touch with this thread and hope that we can help.

You have to emailcthem for an account number too. :p Think its because they cater more for businesses than individuals. Wedding togs probably don't want their supplied prices public.

Their prices seem to indicate £12 for 5x5 prints and a cd of prints (at 18mp each).

Unfortunately the don't take 120 film or else I'd give them a try.

The other "issue" with Club 35 is that their scans seem tiny, 1000x1500 and 2000x3000 ish, especially for the price.

That's pretty damned poor for a MF scan, I agree - 1200dpi ??

And this is the problem I'm having... I getting very confused as to what's good and what's bad...

Thinking about it the 18MB and 30MB files Loxley will produce will actually be of similar values I guess, if uncompressed...:bonk:

The two issues I'm having at the moment are what I actually want to do with them, print or get scans or both (scans would be good for here but prints for me). The other issue is I'm getting confused with the C41 and E6 and B&W prices.

E6 is slide film(so Velvia 50)?
C41 is? Negative colour?
B&W can be both or just C41? Why more expensive with Club35 then?

Yeah I really am that much of a dummy!:baby::lol:

Just had a mess around in CS5 with a random picture, resizing to get 18Mb and 30Mb files, and I reckon that the 18Mb will be roughly the same as a 6 megapixel camera (2900x2175 or so) where the 30m comes out at nearer 10 megapixels (3700x2775) - working on 3x2 profile images  Either of those sizes aren't too bad for digital printing to a reasonable size.

As far as the film types are concerned, you've pretty much got it right - E6 is slide, C41 can be black and white, but is normally colour negative film, then there's "normal" black and white. Normally, C41 process film will be cheaper than any other type of processing, because it'll be minilab based - stick the film reels in one end, and the machine does the rest - either programmed to spit out prints, or scan and burn to a cd/dvd. The E6 and black and white will generally cost more as they will be done on a more labour intensive line or different machines. In short C41 is cheaper, because it was the mass-market product, where the others were more niche...

Ah ok, so normally B&W isn't E6 or C41 but something else?

That makes a lot more sense as to why the C41 is much cheaper and I think why Loxley also appears cheaper.

Think I'll just get the films processed as and printed to 6x6", then scan the prints in for some rough and ready internet copies. :) Almost finished my first B&W roll and will be heading on to some Velvia 50 next to see what that's like, although I may do that after I get the B&W back to check if I'm doing it right and I don't just have a load of black or white squares...
