Loxley canvas samples - do they have the word 'sample' written on them?

No
I'm looking to purchase a canvas from Loxley to show potential clients the quality and basically what they can get from me... however I also want to display the image in my house as a general art work.

Do Loxley stamp the word 'sample' on the canvas anywhere? I'm happy if they do and it's on the back, but if it's on the front anywhere I'd need to consider paying full price instead of ordering it as a sample.

The canvas is going to cost over £100 so any advice would be greatly appreciated... I'd hate to waste that much money by choosing the wrong option :)

Why go to Loxley in the first place when a certain advertiser on the forum can produce identical quality canvas prints a lot lot cheaper!

How is buying a sample wasting money? Unless you want to sell that sample on as a non sample product.

Because I also want to display it in my house as an art piece... so if it has the word 'sample' written on it I can't do this. I would then have to purchase a full price version without this written on it meaning I've then wasted the initial purchase fee spent on the version with 'sample' written on it

But the idea of a sample is exactly that........a sample is for a viewing so that the client can judge the quality and the lab supplier can also help you by giving you a reduced cost item of the same quality for you to sell to your customers.......basically you want to cheat the system.

I bet you cannot wait until a Mr & Mrs Sample buy a wedding album off you!

Lol get of your high horse FFS! I want the canvas for both purposes so I will either buy a sample one or a full cost one depending on if it has the word sample on the picture part. I am NOT trying to cheat the system as have already stated I'm happy to pay full cost should I need to.

Honestly go find something interesting to do with your time instead of internet warrioring

Theres no markings on the sample products. As I see it Loxely offer the discount so you can display them in your studio / gallery / viewing area to show your clients exactly how their product will look. Sort of an incentive to use them as your supplier for wall art. :)

Thanks mate that's a very helpful answer

Any sample items I've purchased from any lab or photo supplier have been discreetly marked as a "SAMPLE" on the reverse, to prevent resale while not spoiling the image or the overall presentation of the product.

But at the end of the day only the supplier can give guarantees.

Edited to add "in hindsight, I don't remember Loxley having marked any print samples as such".

Not for personal use though...it is a business discount.

You said you wanted to use as an art piece in your house!

Let's not kid ourselves on here, they're not 'identical quality'. :)

The main purpose of the canvas is for clients to see the quality, however I have a few spaces in the house I need to fill and as it's a nice image I thought rather than stick the sample canvas in a cupboard somewhere only ever to be seen when i take it out for clients to view, I could put it on the wall to kill 2 birds with one stone.

I don't see how that's unreasonable? Especially when the main purpose of the purchase is to show clients the quality on offer? i.e. it's being used for it's intended purpose in the main.

Fair enough if I was just printing a random image for my house but I'm not doing that... the main purpose is exactly what the discounts are designed for

Dont see an issue. Some of my samples are also art in my house too. Occasionally I may take the batteries (bought out of my business accounts and treated as an expense) out of my flash and put in the kids innotab - no doubt that is wrong too!!

Actually you wrote that you would be wasting your money if it had sample written on it, meaning that your intention was to use it as a personal piece.

How can a a good sized discount for a sample product be a waste of money?

You know the answer.

Yeah I have already stated I would like to put it up in the house too... if you read everything I'd written you'd know this, and you'd also know the primary purpose is to show clients quality :bang:

It would be a waste of money if it had sample written on the picture as I'd want to display it in the house alongside its primary purpose of showing clients the quality of canvas they could buy... it would be a waste of money as if this was the case i'd then have to buy another version (full price) this time to display in the house... again I have already explained this above

Exactly... great comparison!

I'm sure there's plenty of people stick the canvas on the wall instead of shoving it in a cupboard somewhere. I really don't see what the problem is here

You obviously do not understand why they offer a discount for sample products then. If you want a piece for your personal use, buy a full price one.

Doesn't make it right and one of the reasons why some suppliers will not offer discounts anymore.

Any way, run your business as professional as you want.

If your prospective clients visit your home/studio etc. and you display sample prints on your home/studio wall, then surely that is their purpose.

If suppliers aren't offering discounted samples anymore, it's more likely because (they believe) some photographers are selling them on to their clients as retail products.

I take it the piece is not of a clients wedding portrait you want to use as a sample?

Yes it's a wedding portrait of a couple in a camper van kissing:

The space for it is in my home office above my desk.

Not that any of that matters as it's either ok or not ok to display a sample in your house right?

I don't have clients coming to my house as I have a very hyperactive 2 year old chocolate lab who lick attacks anyone who visits :D

The idea would be to just grab it from the wall along with all my other bits and bobs before going to meet potential clients

Loxely only give you the discount once per product. So I don't see it as an issue. It's up to you what images you wish to show to display your work.

But if it for the home office - why would it matter if it had sample written on it especially as no clients will ever see it in your office!

Because I'd rather have things on my wall that don't have the word sample written on them. I've already said I'm happy to pay full price should it have 'sample' written on the image, but if it's elsewhere i.e. back or side I'd not be worried.

Who would that be?

I was just going for Loxley as I get my prints from them and have always been very happy with their quality

Just gaze your eyes to the top of the page and the top right of your sreen, might be a clue there.

Oxford Imaging Co are very good with Canvas too - not tried the advertiser on here yet but good feedback there too.

I'm going to a wedding for the Sample's next weekend. I'll ask them. My mate Paul. P. Sample, poor sod:D

Just to make sure probably worth giving loxely a quick call they are always awesome on the phone, as commented earlier TCP who do advertise on this forum do make very good canvasses at a better price I have had a couple from them and customers always been happy, but to be honest dscl are cheaper for prints than loxely but I always find myself going back to loxely

Yeah I'll get in touch with them... think i'll stick with Loxley too tbh as have always been very happy with the standard of their prints

It's not really anyone business what he does with the print. All he asked was does it come with sample across it.
