Lowest PPI for a 8x6

Daft question I know.

Reason is I am give a few picture to a friend/client on a CD and I said they will be at a restricted size.

Now I know if I gave them 8x6 at 300PPI you can still get a bigger decent print.

so, what would be the lowest ppi for an 8x6 size before you could see a reduction in quality.

I was thinking around 180?

Let me know your thoughts please.

I think you mean dpi -dots per inch? Ppi - pixels per inch refers to monitor display. I'd stick with 300 dpi which is pretty much a printing industry standard, although 240 dpi is generally connsidered to be photo quality.

No I mean PPI

The PPI will restrict as to what the largest print they can get from the file I supply.

If I supply it as 300PPI at 8x6 they could still print at 13x10 at 180 ppi which would still be an ok print.

so if I can set the PPI low enough to give a decent print and restrict the size of the file. But not too low so the print is poor.

One of our clients resizes all their work to 5"x7" @ 300dpi - and then print everything with these - including 12"x15". Now, I know the quality should be poor as its only 125ppi at 12" - but the results are remarkably good....

I think the best way is to do some real life prints rather then just go off figures.
