Having bought some new kit I am looking for a new camera bag and have narrowed it down to the two sizes of the Lowepro event messenger in the title.

I have seen the 150 in the flesh but my local shop does not stock the 250 and I'm finding it hard to decide between the two. The 150 looks like it will hold what I want at a push but I'm not sure if the 250 will be too big and end up being cumbersome.

Has anyone got any experience of the two bags they can share.

I would want the bag to hold the following minimum.

Canon 60d
Canon 50mm f1.8
Canon 70-200 f4L
Sigma 18-50 f2.8
60d Charger

From looking at the 150 it seems it would be a push to get all that in but you never can tell unless you try it!

Usually I would take all my stuff to the shop and ask to try but I live in Mallorca and I'm waiting for my brother to bring out my 60d and 70-200 in the new bag from England in a few weeks so need to get it ordered soon!

Theres no way that will even fit in a 250, theyre not big bags.

I use mine for a D800, 70-200MM and then its a squeeze to get a Tamron 28-75mm in, they need to make a 350

Thanks for the input, that's saved me alot of hassle! Guess Im looking at backpacks in that case.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

I agree you probably need something a bit larger. If the sigma was attached to your body then you may squeeze it all in. I have a D800 with the 24-70 f2.8 attached, a 50m 1.8, 2 speedlights a charger, a light meter and 13" laptop all in the main area of the bag with cards, batteries etc in the front pocket.

I love the Lowepro Flipside. I have a 200 which may just about fit all your gear but you'd probably want the next size up.

The zip is on the inside of the bag so far less likely to have anything nicked when you're out and about.

There are loads of Messenger style bags that are suitable for your gear so you dont need to look for a backpack if a Messenger is what you want

I have a Messenger 250 and it takes (in main compartment) Canon 5D2 with 24-105 attached, 70-200 4 inc tripod collar, 17-40, extender, three triggers and a spare AA batts. Front pocket takes filters, cards, hood for 17-40 and a few other bits and bobs. The elasticated side pockets take one 580EX gun each, inside pouch takes a couple of fold-flat flash modifiers, grey card etc. I don't want to carry it far when fully loaded.

I took some time configuring the interior and pinched a couple of small dividers from other bags, mainly to make better use of the height, but it all fits very nicely with quick access.

I have the 250..

I easily get

5dIII with 24-105, a 50mm under that
70-200 F2.8 IS II
100mm Macro
in the front , batteries, filters, card case etc...

This is a reasonable fit, I could probably squeeze a few other bits in...

Sounds similar to me. The trick is spending some time configuring the interior.

My 5D2 with 24-105, sits sideways on the top - if you follow, basically the handgrip is uppermost right in the middle of the bag (easy to grab). This leaves loads of space underneath for another short lens (eg 17-40) plus triggers and batteries. Then the 70-200/4 stands vertically at one end, with extender and a few other bits partitioned off underneath. I could easily get a 70-200/2.8 in there, though with nothing underneath it.

Great stuff, thanks for the input guys.Might go for the 250 and cross my fingers!
