Lowepro backpack advice

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I have been looking at the Lowepro backpacks with a view to purchasing one very soon if it meets my requirements.

At moment I use a Lowepro Toploader 70AW that nicely accomadates a Nikon D2Hs & attached 17-55 lens.

Hopefully this week the postman will deliver a Sigma 70-200 2.8 so I need a bigger bag to fit this in maybe with a D2H backup body.

As I do a lot of walking what feedback can users of the backpacks give me eg: comfort/weight?

Looks like the depth inside might not be enough for a D2H........

The only one's that are deeper are the Photo/Nature Trekkers that are probably bigger than my needs :Ponders:
 
I use the mini trekker as mentioned in the linked thread, the bag used to hold my 300d with the battery grip fitted ok.

what's the size of your D2H? i can measure the inside of the bag for you if you want.

never mind learning o search, if you have a Q, just ask it :)
 
Hi digitalfailure......

From top of the flash mount to the bottom of the body it measures approx 6".

My 20D with battery grip attached measures 6" from top to botton and the min trekker easily accommodates it. I'm sure the bag will take any camera including a 1Ds. :)

The internal measurements are stated as 5"D for the Mini Trekker.

One other thing.........the price........

The link says Warehouse Express have it for £69.99.......the one I am looking at on their website is at £74.99.......am I looking at the correct backpack/website? :Ponders:
 
Can't help with the links and costs m8, I paid over £100 for mine when it was new out

I have measured the height of the interior and it is 5", but that doesn't allow for any distortion of the lid section.

my 20D has the tripod mount fitted all the time and it has loads of room in the bag. As I mentioned earlier, my previous camera lived in this bag with the battery grip on full time.

I would suggest nipping into your local camera shop and trying the body in it, jessops will match a genuine webprice as will a good many independant retailers :)
 
Thanks digitalfailure..........I guess the lid section would give as it is not of a rigid design and as CT says his "20D with grip easily fits in".

The Photo/Nature one's are 6" in depth but don't fancy carrying one of those around all day :eyesup:

I did try going into my local stockist to check but they seem to only get them to order.

Don't confuse the Mini Trekker Classic with the Mini Trekker AW (All weather)

The AW is about a tenner dearer than the Classic, but has a concealed rainproof cover in the bottom of the pack which pulls out and slips over the outside of the bag giving complete protection from rain getting in through zips and flaps. That seems to be the only difference between the two bags -an important consideration though if you do a lot of walking.
 
Well after all the advice I finally found a local store that had a good selection of backpacks to have a good look at..........

Looked at a good range of Lowepro including the Dryzone that I almost bought......in the end I finished up purchasing the Tamrac 5575 Expedition 5.

Will post when I get the chance to take some piccys (Missis thinks am barmy to start with so if she catches me taking photo's of my backpack the white van will be on order :D )

Went out with it for the first time yesterday.........

Walked around Barnard Castle & Durham......in the bag was Nikon D2Hs + 17-55 2.8 mounted & Sigma 70-200 2.8......plus various memory cards etc....

Found my shoulders aching at times (but it got me a nice massage in the evening ;) ) and finished up using the handle at the top to walk around with when I wasn't taking pictures.

I guess it will take a little time to get used to it but all in all I like the backpack...........so much so I am considering adding the smaller model Expedition 4 for short walks out.
