At this time of year the sun tends to be low, when I'm shooting a football match I thought I had to be in a position so that the sun was behind me when taking shots. Is that the best place to be to take photos? Any advice/help welcome.

I had the same situation yesterday. I decided to shoot manual with Auto ISO selected. I set the ISO limiter range to 200 - 12800. Later increasing it to 25600 when light dropped and floodlights came on. Another way would be to shoot AV with a minimum S/S selected and again Auto ISO

I think that he's talking about direction of light guys! :)

The answer is that you can shoot with the sun behind you, or into it giving backlighting. If you're shooting into the sun try to make sure that you fill the frame and get the exposure right.

That is was I meant, shooting with the sun behind you, I wasn't too clear in my original post. I thought if you shoot into the sun it would be a disaster, but a friend sent me a link to some football shots into the sun and I wondered what sort of settings you might use.

Kipax posted a couple of threads about it. That'd be a good place to start.

My mistake, i just went on from where Tug left off.

I try to avoid it but you cant always, take a look at my website and the recent England v Wales game was shot into the sun.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll have a look at those threads mentioned.
